Determining GSR or LS Crank

Hey guys,

About a year ago I bought a rebuilt bottom end off a friend that when I purchased it had told me it had a GSR crank, Eagle H Beam Rods and USDM ITR pistons.

Just for fun, as I’m trying to deterime my overall compression on my LS/V, is there a way to tell which crank it is without dropping the oil pan and searching for a stamping number?

I was thinking placing a long wooden dowl in one of the spark plug holes ontop of the piston head and measuring total distance from TDC to BDC.

Wouldn’t that differentiate between an LS crank and GSR crank?

The determination is needed because I could either 10.24 Compression or 11.6 Compression. That changes a lot of game plans!
