you can clean out your iac with some throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush, my car idles great and i have 403’s
k thanx
hmmmm!! but im wondering if this is the problem or because i disconected the wire, now i see that my car can’t go more then 4000k, so i would try to clean the iac but im wondering is not bypass my problem and maybe is the fast air control the problem or something else in my vaccum system
crazyteg…when you step on the brakes or turn on your A/C or lights - do you RPMs fluctuate quite a bit too? I was think its my IACV but now I’m leaning towards the fast idle valve but…when i start my car cold the fast idle seems to be working and revs me up to 1500-2000 at first.
my problems occur about 2 min after taking off when my temp comes up a bit and im not quite warm so im still stumped…my car even seams to try and backfire taking off from stoplights at that point as well
help
yes
yes when i turn my steering or when i open the heater my rpm fluctuate a litle bit, and when i start my engine when is cold he start at 1700-1800rpm and goes back after, i would like 2 know how can i know when the iacv is not working??
What happened to Joeygill? Did you fix your problem?
i added a power chip thinkin i would get a little power gain and got the fluctuating rpm symptom (up to 4K down to near stall over and over). i pulled the after market mod and put the stock ecu back and it fixed the problem… or so i thought
a few days later, i got the same rapid rpm fluctuation with the stock computer and was stumped coz it hinted to be a fuel pump problem. after readin the previous posts regarding the sensors i am wondering if i caused the problem when i tried the upgrade which ended up givin me a really really rich fuel/air mix…
i had to catch a ride to work today hehe
i got a toothbrush and some cleaner and will get to work when i get home.
I went to the shop today and everything ran fine :argh: i give up:gun: Integra

I actually havent done anything … lol…havent had time.
But I think some of the peeps on this thread seem to be having worse idle problems than me and Answer do.
Mine only fluctuates about 100rpms or so max.
i know you can clean your IACV and you can also take it out and test it with a nine volt battery or an Ohm/Volt Meter — it tells you how in the Haynes Manual, however, it is such a bitch to pull out that little piece because of the coolant lines its hooked to, believe me i tried and got coolant all over and then gave up and put the one line i had off back on
im going to a junkyard to see if i can score a cheap IACV, when I get it, ill update
someone pointed out the oxygen sensor just behind the throttle body and told me the next time it does the rpm freak out thing to “tap” it with the end of a screwdriver. if it quits then it’s the sensor… if it doesn’t, then it might be the sensor… i was like “uh…ok” that should not be too hard… if only i was really sure that the piece i am beating with a screwdriver is really a sensor. heh
the haynes book i got is a combo manual with the legend… is there a better book with more detail that is JUST for the 2nd gen integra?
Are you sure you mean the O2 sensor. It is plugged into the exhaust system either in the stock header or in the down pipe before the cat. It is not in behind the throttle body.
I had this and a bunch of other problems so it’s hard to remember what fixed what. But I have replaced my throttlebody + TPS…(Throttle Position Sensor), Fuel filter, cap and rotor, plugs, wires, O2 sensor, AND adjusted the timing. IACV was fine. No more engine or idle problems at all :). On to the fun stuff!! Hope this helps. Maybe try one of these that you haven’t done already
Turns out, my problems are probably coming from the catalytic converter. Bouncy idle = the crap inside the cat was broken and would clog and unclog, blocking then freeing up the exhaust. I think anyway but im going to replace it with one of those holley cats and hope for the best.
Did you diagnose that some way or did someone give you the diagnosis. Your last post said the problem had gone away. Would sure appreciate you keeping us up to date because if it is the cat, we would want to be sure before spending that kind of money.
my CAT i know is already in my muffler, maybe thats it - ive just been putting it off. Anyone know if a high-flo CAT and an Apexi N1 exhaust will pass emissions?
I’d love it if that was what the fix to my problems is…
Well my exhaust has been making the weirdest noises. One day it sounds like a small-block chevy and the next day it sounds like a CART race car:confused: now it echoes really loud and sounds all clogged up. So my car pretty much sounds different every day and I figure that it’s the cat because thats where the noise is coming from. Also, the bouncing tach might be fluctuating because of stuff inside the car bouncing around. A while back I had rattling sounds from the collector pipe/cat area. So I think thats enough to convince me its the cat…unless anyone can explain this?
somebody found something?
well
i change my iacv and now he doesnt fluctuate too high only from 1000rpm to 1200rpm i think maybe if i change my fast idle it will be ok but im not sure i will change it this saturday
Well, I bought a Holley Airmass cat. I think the stuff in the cat gets clogged and unclogged, causing the RPM fluctuations. Other than that, the only other explanation is that with the Intake and Exhuast, the computer can’t compensate fast enough to fix the idle. I’ll let you know once I get my cat put on.
