I’m almost done putting my car back together after it was stolen. The issue I have right now is that my low beams are extremely dim. Fog lights work perfectly and I always have them on when driving as low beams are dim. AT first I thought it was cheap light bulbs that I planned using for the interim. After switching to Sylvania SilverStar zXe I still had dim low beams. I realize then that the light bulbs were not the issue.
I have one the one piece JDM style headlights that used to easily found on ebay and other sites. Mechanic had to splice wiring back together because thieves were too lazy to disconnect harness and cut the wires instead.
Fuses, relay and ground all seem to be alright according to my mechanic. Mechanic thought it could be combo light switch that is defective. Not enough voltage is powering the low beams so that’s why the lights are so dim.

I never paid attention to the JDM style headlights which could have wiring for 9007 instead of 9004 bulbs I put in place. I asked mechanic to check this and make sure if the socket had wiring for 9007 instead of 9004 with the order of the three wires.

If combo light switch is problem I suppose it would be possibly to test by bypassing it as another member suggested.

That brings us to power, [12V+] and the only thing common to both sides is the “Combination Light Switch” the “Dimmer Switch”, [high/low beam switch] and the red/yellow low beam line between “CLS” and the under dash fuse box, after that it splits into the left and right low beam circuits starting at fuse 3 and 4 - 10A, [hot when head light switch is on low beam] in under dash fuse box.
A simple test to determine if the problem is before or after the fuses is to power the fused directly, you can use a short jumper lead from the constant power free pin on the fuse box, [the free pins are the empty male terminals just above the top row of fuses] you can see them here… http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-93...ayphotohosting the one in the center has a red terminal like this in it… http://www.scosche.com/scosche_carau...ID=FDNR250-100 that is the park light free pin, [hot when light switch is on park lights] you can use it if you turn on the park lights, sorry I am not sure which one is the constant 12V+, you can find the constant 12V+ buy “jumping” from the park light free pin to the others until the park light come on, [light switch off]
Anyway, jump from 12V+ to fuse 3 or 4, pull fuse and stick jumper wire into fuse “plug”, sorry also do not know if the output is the upper or lower part of plug.
What you are looking for is to see if the lights, [low beam] are still dim when you power then directly.
If they are still dim the problem is not the “CLS” however if they work normally then the problem is the “CLS”, [dimmer switch] and it will have to be replaced, or the wiring/connections between switch and fuse box, either would effect both bulbs the same way.[/INDENT]
- Wiring could be bad but then again mechanic tested this but said it wasn’t issue. I’m assuming mechanic or at least his employees have been doing a proper job of diagnosing things.
I usually buy parts and just ask my mechanic to install for me if I don’t have time or tools to do the job right myself.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong. Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
