ok so i got my engine it did not come with a distributor so i bought one and i installed it but im not sure if i installed it backwards. the engine is at Top dead center and the rotor is pointing to cylinder #3. is that right or am i off by 180 degrees and it should point to cylinder #1?
same stuff, different engine

The distributor only fits one way, line up the protrusion on the distributor with the slot on the end of the camshaft. If it’s in 180deg off then the distributor will not sit flush with the cam cap which it bolts to. These pieces should sit flush against each other with no gap.
i am really glad there are people like colin on the site
people know exactly what they talking about and willing to help
the §§§§§ will set flush either way. i can turn it 180degrees and it still sets flush. i did alot of dizzys on sohc and those you cant get wrong but some reason this one you can flip.
Have you seen this on multiple distributors for b series? Sounds like you ran into some strange parts, I’ve had tons of distributors and many different motors, never been able to put one on backwards with it sitting flush.
maybe its an aftermarket one
ok so since no one gave me answer…when your car is at TDC the §§§§§ must point to cylinder 1. my §§§§§ could bolt in both ways with out any resistance. neither edges were tapered so it can go both ways
weird cause im with Colin, ive had 2 now and both will only go in one way
yea i have no idea. idk if its and after market one or a oem one.
so that means your intake cam end isnt offset aswell(dist. end), as im pretty sure all b-series engines are.
that is weird…
well anyways, to your question.
at TDC, firing order is 1-3-4-2.
so just set the distributor so that and you should be fine.

Post a picture of it.
I think I have the same problem. I am doing a motor build and I just installed my skunk 2 pro cams, and gears. The gears have three marks on them. Two of them look like just a line (-) and then the other one has a weird line (which I think is the arrow) I lined up the arrows together in the middle. I don’t know if this is right or wrong. As far as the distributor stuff I have know clue what you guys are talking about. I put the distributor on and it sits flush but I didn’t try it the other way to see if it wouldn’t. I don’t get what the protrusion on distributor is as well as in position #1. Some pics would help out a lot. Thanks
sorry I know what the protrusion is. What do I line up with cyclinder 1 on the distributor? A pic would be nice
