Distributor interior oil leak symptoms

I have a 92 ls integra 5 speed, and i saw that the distributor cap is leaking oil. The car would start up fine, i would drive to work but on my way to work my idle will go down all the way to the 150 to 200 rpm sometimes lower. It will turn off sometimes but usually i put the ebrake on and just play with the gas to keep it up which is becoming an issue. Now i know that i could change the oring and also the distributor shaft seal but i am going to change the whole distributor. My question is if the symptoms i am experiencing would be due to an internal oil leak in the distributor. Also i notice that my rpm would go all the way down and even stall if i am standing still and i turn the steering wheel, what would cause that type of problem?

Well, it’s an electronic part… Getting oil inside is definitely going to throw a wrench in the mix and will be very likely the cause of misfires, making the car want to stall.

my buddy has a 92 LS as well, and the o-ring in the distributor decided it didnt want to do its job so it started leaking , im not to sure if he had similar issues as you but he no longer has a leak after swapping the o-ring, hopefully no oil made contact with your icm or anything, but i wouldnt doubt oil contact with anything inside the distributor would cause some problems like unified112 said

it still turns on great but few miles down the road the rpm would start to go down and if im sitting still and i start to turn the wheels the car would def stall, is there like a power steering switch or a vacuum hose to the power steering that would cause the rpm to go way down when you turn the steering wheel. and btw i am goin to change the distributor but still keep the old to practice disarming it n puttin it bak 2gether

It won’t be listed anywhere in an Acura parts catalog and sometimes it can be hard to find info about, but there is actually a seal for the shaft that spins inside the distributor. If you can find the part # by searching online, then you can usually find that (NOK) seal on a parts site or ebay.

Replace that seal. Which you have to take the entire distributor apart to do so. Make sure you mark Everything and that should fix your internal oil leak.

yea ive done my research on the interior seal but i have decided to buy a new distributor and keep the old one and learn how to dismantle it. thanks for the posts btw is there a way to correct and check timing without a timing light?
