i’ve been having this really bad distributor problem for like two months now. first, when my car broke down, the cap was shot. So I changed the cap, rotor, and the coil. About two hours later on the highway, it shut off again. I took it back to the shop and took the cap off to find the rotor was spinning freely. Haven’t had a problem with it, until today when the car shut off again. The cap fell off again and I screwed it back on. I test drove it afterwards for a little bit, car is running. But for some reason, I feel as if my car is lacking power (acceleration) and I think the cap might come off again. I’m thinking of my distributor as a whole is gone, anyone have any suggestions?
cap problem
I suggest finding out what is wrong with your cap. It shouldn’t fall off when tightened down. Can you pull the cap off by hand after tightening it?
If you bumped any of the connections loose on the ignitor unit when replacing the coil, that causes problems of poor acceleration.
Id say buy a new after market distributor.(120.$) Put it in your self and call it a day!
no, the cap is on tight as of right now. drove it around some more and sometimes i feel as if its going to stall again. i changed the cap, coil and rotor 3 times already. im thinking about buying a new distributor as a whole and installing it. is there any brands you guys would recommend at a decent price?
distributor king on ebay, $160ish? with warranty
My distributor from honda just came today so ill let you know if my problem is corrected. (Im dealing with the same issue). Make sure you get a cap and rotor from honda because some of the aftermarket ones dont fit snug.
how much did it cost you for that distributor?
270 (through my job)…Listed around 300 with shipping from acura oem parts website.
theres no sense in getting an oem distributor for 300 if you can buy one from distributor king for 160. PLUS, the coil/ignitor, which are known to go bad, are warrantied for life
