Just wondering if anybody else’s exhaust rattle for a split second when the hit 2000rpm? Mine does and it’s very annoying.
I think it might be the gasket between the header and the cat, but I’m not sure.
Any suggestions?
ever taken a physics class? resonance my boy, resonance. i have it at 3200 rpms ( which is around 60 miles so highway sucks ) on my exhaus, my shift knob and my speedo or somethin in there. resonance has to do with frequencies, if you really wanna know more, ask. there has to be a physics major in here somewhere.
that happened to me and i took it to a muffler shop and they raised the car, and they found a heat sheild that was loose about halfway down the header and the muffler. so they just cut it off and problem solved. well thats what happened to me anyway. just an idea.
my car does it at 1500rpm…but it goes away after the car is warmed up.
I got it somewhere between 2700ish and 3500ish RPMs (cant remember exactly). My CRX had the same problem.
Mine did the same thing at 3000 rpm. I thought that it was the heat sheild so I took it to a muffler shop. What they said was that there’s an ‘inner wall’(i can’t remember in what section of the exhaust) that was rattling inside the exhaust.
They put a clamp on just before the catalytic converter and that took care of most of the problem. It still makes a little noise, but it’s better than it was (it’ll be completely fixed this spring when I get my sport exhaust!)
My car rattled too… Mine was the colletctor pipe on the headers. The collector pipe is a double-wall pipe (2 pipes). To fix it partially, go to a muffler/welding shop and tell them to spot weld it together. It didnt fix mine completely but its way better than before. HTH…
My brother has this problem. It is in his catalytic converter. One of the screens in there is loose.
mine rattles during cold startups for a minute or so, and then stops
its just another little thing that adds ‘character’ to the teg
mine does i t aorund 2100… but i got a gutted cat and thought it was the heat shiled so i got that taken off but it still does it.
Mine started doing it after I installed my header last week. Usually when the car is idling. Only intermitently though.
Lodoss, have you found out where you are burning oil yet? Check your spark plugs for fouling, see if there is any oil on them. Don’t forget when you get it dynoed again that the auto tranny is gonna absorb some more hp than the manual. I saw that 140whp dyno sheet yesterday and was so jealous. I don’t think I will ever be able to hit that with a NA automatic. :sad: Of course I really appreciate the automatic when when traffic is all backed up here aroun Northern Virginia!
Hey guys, our factory collector pipe (B-Pipe) has double-wall piping and that rattles. I know I already said that but plz I can’t be the only one this is happening to?!
