Ok so i bought a complete JDM 90-91 B16A with plans to go LS/VTEC… I also went out and bought $1400 canadian in parts, ITR pistons, LS Rods, bolts, gaskets etc that are unreturnable to the dealer.
The more research I do … the more scared i am to do the swap. block gurdle, oil pump, etc…
Should I go ahead with the Frankenstein or just plop the B16 in and sell the parts that i bought??
my intentions are to have a shop do the machine work and me to the swap in my garage.
you’re really not too deep in the whole to back out. You can easily sell the itr pistons (however you probably won’t make back what you paid for them… in the future don’t buy parts like that from the dealer).
but you could also go ahead with the ls/vtec. just make sure you do a full rebuild, get the rods shot peened, or even better replace them with aftermarket ones, get arp rod bolts. Getting a z10 block girdle would also be a good investment.
as for the oil pump, if you were doing a rebuild of the b18a you’d probably be getting a new one anyway, so thats not really any more money.
in the future if you need oem parts try www.acuraautomotiveparts.net or www.hondaautomotiveparts.com their prices will be about 25% below list price, and even more below what the dealer will charge (the local acura dealer here marks up a good deal above list… they wanted $25 for a part that listed at $18, and i could get from acura automotive for $13.)
