im haveing problems with my drivers door, when i open the door and i have the keys in or the lights on the car dings but the dome light wont come on. it works when the passenger door is open and i tried to switch the switches but is still did the same thing… whats wrong with my dome light??
By “switching the switches” did you mean you physically removed the pass and drivers door switches and swapped them. Or did you “switch the dome lite switch” positions. The black/silver door frame mounted slide switch, when door is open, provides a ground for the dome lite. If by opening the drivers door the dome light doesn’t lite, try jiggling the slide switch to see if it makes contact. If you push the slide switch, as if to simulate the door being closed, you should see the 1 attach screw. Try tightening that as it is the physical ground part. Try removing the switch and see if the wire from the dome lite is hooked up via the blade connector. Try grounding the wire to the attach hole to see if that makes the dome lite work. If that doesn’t help then that wire is fubar further up toward the dome lite. Remove the dome lite and check the connections there now that you know the wire color.
yes i physicaly removed the switch and changed them… the drivers switch worked fine on the passenger side and the passenger switch did the same thing on the drivers side that the other one was doing… and when i open the drivers door and the lights are on or the key is on it makes the beeping but the light doesnt come on… but thank you i will check the dome light its self and see if i can find something wrong there…
i use to have the same problem then 1 day it started coming on wen i opened my door and its been workin ever since idk how jus did
the contact must of been loose or got some gunk in there. and wear n tear.
i have had to replace both of the little black strykers or whatever you want to call them… but then the drivers started acting up and i switched them and it still didnt do anything… i just hotwired the drivers switch to the passenger wire and that worked… only now when the pass door is open and the lights are on it dings but atleast i have a dome light when i open MY door…
did u check the wiring near the dome light? maybe the ground contact is bad for the driver side. i dunno how it looks personally, but if its a body ground, double check to make sure that its paint free, and clean it up (scratch the metal) to increase the connection. sometimes certain electrical components don’t work well cuz the ground wire, that is mounted to a body panel or surface, has paint on it. and well paint acts more like an insulator… that might be an issue. but yea, i dunno how the wiring looks for that at the moment so if u’ve already checked that, then me dunno. did u check continuity of the driver side? maybe a wire was stripped/broken/burned.
yeah i did all that and i know the switch is grounding becaus when i hooked it up to the passenger wire it makes the light come on… and the car dings and beeps if the drivers door is open and the ligths are on or the key is in… so i dont know what the problem is i just gave up and hooked it into the passenger wire… now i have a dome light!! i think it has something to do with the floor light i installed… i have lights on the floor that come on when the door is open that are connected to the dome light bulb… i dont know im not too worried about it, the light works so im happy… now if only i could afford the gas to go somewhere!!!
