Door cloth quickfix w/pics

If your oem door cloth is peeling or coming off here’s a quickfix that might help. You could use glue first to adhere the cloth to the vinyl door panel, but glue is messy and unreliable depending on which type you use, so if you want to skip that step and just do this quickfix, that’s up to you (I opted not to use glue in this fix). I think I figured out a way to glue the cloth using velcro, maybe I will upload that fix in a later time.

What you’ll need:

  • Phifer screening spline .160 diameter x 25’
  • spline roller tool
  • pliers

You can get the screening spline at you favorite hardware store, I got mine from OSH. It is available in grey or black, I chose the grey one to use in this quickfix. Other companies may make the spline, but the only ones I saw at the store were Phifer brand. Make sure to get the .160 diameter version. The 25’ length should cover all four doors (I did this fix on a sedan). The pics below are self explanatory, it is a really simple fix. Choose your start point on the door panel and just insert and run the spline all the way around the groove using the spline roller tool. Use the roller tool’s flat edge wheel for better control. Roll and push the spline into the grooved edge to create a snug seal between the cloth and vinyl panel. Don’t apply too much force or push the spline in too much into the groove. Start off light and gently push the spline in more until you feel there is a snug fit within the panel groove. When you have placed the spline completely all around, cut off the excess spline and you’re done.
