Hey guys, i’ve been getting really irritated with my doors on my 91 teg. The door handles barely work, have to pull really hard to open door from the inside. My lock/unlock button doesn’t work that well, half the time it doesn’t lock/unlock and it sounds like crap. And my power window work fine but they are super slow and also sound like crap. What would be the best way to fix this problem? Replace all those parts , new door?
Take off the inner door panel and take a look at the door lock / handle mechanism. It sounds like something got outta whack in there. I recently had to replace my handle because of a similar issue but it could also just be that something needs to be tightened. As for the power window, it sounds like your switch is just worn/dirty. You can take apart the switch and clean the contacts and it will work fine (for a little while). Eventually you’ll have to either get a new switch or try to rebuild the metal contacts (solder perhaps) that make the power connection. (Once you get into the switch you’ll know what I’m talking about).
Not to Thread Jack but I have a couple questions that are sorta related. One, lock buttons in my car don’t do anything, and I can only use my key on the drivers side door. Two, my windows are super slow. Have to assist the passenger side window up almost every time…any tips?
What do you mean the lock buttons don’t do anything? Are they broken? Do you hear the mechanism working? Are they power door locks or manual? If you’re talking about power windows, do what I said above. The window switch contacts are dirty. Take off the door panel, get access to the switch, take it apart CAREFULLY and you’ll see the black dust accumulation in there. Clean all of it off, reassemble everything and it’ll work like new. But like I said, it’s a temporary fix. You’d either have to get a new switch or rebuild the metal contacts with solder etc. for a long term solution.
okay well, after a quick walk outside…I think its probly just the passenger lock switch?? but im not sure. my alarm only unlocks the driver side door. same with when i hit the unlock button inside my car. but it does not unlock the passenger side…and the passenger side lock button does nothing. so could it just be the switch? Or something more considering the drivers side switch is fine but doesnt unlock the passnger side… Guess i should just pop of my door panel and check everything out, huh?
It sounds like the motor that control that lock has stopped working. Either the wiring got disconnected or the motor burnt out.

I’ll take off the door panel and take a look this week and do what you said. I do have a soldering iron so if thats the case, ill try it.
I had to redo all of the wiring going in and out of my doors because the wires broke and the harness connector.
