Main fuel relay, a common problem on integras and accords. A relay is a magnet that moves a switch, and over time either the switch mechanism or the electrical connections to that magnet get old.
Try opening the gas cap, that can help too.
how is this going to help? fuel doesnt expand that much to cause Vapor lock. that is not going to do anything fyi.
alright cool thanks, ima grab one from the boneyard and see if that helps, or do you reccomend a new one?
Some people report success in opening theirs and removing the old solder on the 3 biggest solder points on the underside of the circuit board. I Just plopped more solder on mine and it worked for about 4 months after that but gave out again when the weather got super hot.
New one of course is almost guaranteed to work for years and years. I believe acuraoemparts.com has the Main Fuel Relay for around 45 bucks but can take about a week to arrive. I was stranded at a restaurant parking lot last week and walked across the street to a small parts shack where I bought an off-brand one for 70 bucks, popped it in, and drove home just fine.
definitely get a new one. you’ll find yourself in the same position with a used one. i resoldered mine and its worked perfect since. you just need to remove the old solder and add some new. if you don’t know what your doing however i suggest to just buy a new one.
Back from the dead! Well Summertime is here and guess what! The intermittent no starting problem is back. Car just clicks, very random when it does start. Can an old battery contribute to this is hotter weather? I just had mine checked and it’s considered “Marginal” at best according to the results. The rated CCA is 528, it’s currently at 445. Do ya think?
car should still start no matter what the cca are in the summer. as for the main relay i bought mine for 38 bucks from rockauto.com and ive had it for 3 years so far so good
dunno dude but i have tried this before and it always works… can someone explain this?
so you hear a click AT the starter?
if so, the starter circuit is likely operating correctly and you have a problem with your starter. or ground. the starter motor draws a lot of amperage and for that it needs a good path to ground. it’s grounded through the transmission and ultimately through the trans to chassis ground. check that ground. also, check the battery to chassis ground cable. very common for it to become corroded. if you have a multimeter, you can measure the resistance of those cables. because heat causes resistance and vise versa, electrical issues are more common during hot days, or after the cars been running
if they check out good, try jumping the starter directly. if it still doesn’t start with a bypass jump, replace the starter
The main fuel relay will not keep the engine from turning over. Look to the starter relay ( under dash passanger side) or the starter. It could also be the ignition switch.
