Yeah there is this cool puller tool that bolts onto your lug nuts and and threads down the center to push out your axle. Mine was frozen so bad that with this tool it took a solid 30 seconds with an impact on it’s highest setting. That’s a lot even though it sounds like a short amount of time. I actually had to take my whole wheel hub off and to a local shop to get it out. Hopefully yours isn’t stuck in that bad. I am not sure where this guy got his pullers though.
actually i have that side out, i’m trying to get the inside (transmission side) out. i’m thinkin maybe the snap ring broke and is wedged in there, as it is really not coming out…

Dude used a crow bar pop and out goes the axle.
It isn’t too hard to remove the intermediate shaft so if you have to get the whole thing out. I would try a pry bar or crowbar first.
A metal wedge and a hammer work wonders. I’ve run into several stubborn axles over the years. Place the wedge between the intermediate shaft and the axle, and pound it in with a hammer. Shouldn’t take much. Best of luck.

Yes, a Hammer and/or a rubber mallet works wonders on some car parts. I have a standard screwdriver thats about 15 inches long and 1/4inch thick that I refer to as “The WidowMaker”. Let me tell you how many times that and a hammer have been the solution to a problem.

Heres my horror story on when I changed my drivers side axel. I had the same problem you are having. I used everything I could find to pry with but it wouldn’t come loose. I finally resorted to removing the axel and intermediate shaft as a whole. Once out of the car I still couldn’t get the two apart. I called Acura and asked them what the secret was to seperating the two, they said it just pops out. So I loaded it up and took it to them. Well they found out that it doesn’t just pop out. Said they had never seen anything like it. I took it to two machine shops, they couldn’t get the two apart either. The place I work for has a well stocked mataince department so I took it there and used the press to try and get them seperated but still no good. A large bearing separator, nope. I was tired of trying so I got the torch and cut the damn thing apart ruining both pieces. I turned in the core and had to buy an intermediate shaft from a junk yard. I was without my car for a week because of this simple task gone wrong. Hope you have better luck than I did.
i’m actually about 1/2 way through your process. i did the passanger side and filled the tranny back up. so i drained it again, took the intermediate shaft out, banged on it, no luck. i was gonna take it to the machine shop tomorrow, but i dont think they will get it either. the bearings are about shot now from al lthe banging i have done on it anyway. anyone have an intermediate shaft they want to sell?
