Hi folks. My black leather seats are hard and have some irreparable rips from PO. I ran across a full set of blue cloth (I want cloth anyway) for $30 in good condition with no rips. Question is, would doing the RIT carpet dye trick work on the blue seats to dye them black? I’ve done this on my floor mats with great success. Anyone had experience with this or any other dye on seats?
find out what material the seats are made of first. i recommend jacquard prosion? MX dye. it comes in a powder form. one of the best dyes you can buy. again, depending on the materials, you may need to buy jacquard acid dyes instead…
I used RIT dye on my carpet and it has started to fade and is more of a brown now, especially in high wear areas like next to the door sill and on the edges of the floor mats. A seat will see a lot more wear than the carpet. Although, I was going from tan to black so the palmy blue to black might hold up a lot better, and plus the seats are only $30! Give it a shot, I’d be interested to know the results, especially if you used another type of die like gilcontr suggested.
