Ebay CAI vs. AEM?

alrite, now i am looking to get a CAI and 200 bux is just way to much for a pipe. so i figure i just go ebay? i mean couldnt i just buy sum of that heat wrap stuff beings as how its proly made of sum junky, non-heat resistant metal. would that be worth it? should i just not even bother with that and go short ram? or should i just spend 200 bux on a AEM? :hmm:

thats the Short Ram vs CAI thread make your own decision on which you want, SR’s generally give a little better throttle response

I had a EBAY CAI in my last Integra, I thought it was working fine because it enhanced the sound, added alittle more pick up (not that much but enough to take some notice), Until i met up with 2 G2IC friends (90GSTegger=Aaron, IntegraRS_AnT=Anthony), Aaron sold a Strut bar to Anthony, And Aaron leaned on Anthonys AEM CAI and the pipe was cold while everything else was hot, So i got curious and went to my EBAY CAI and the pipe was as hot as the engine… So i dont know if thats affecting performance or not… But just thought id add my 2 cents

yea i figured that would happen but thats why i was seeing if i could just use that heat wrap stuff they have in JCW sport compact. its suposed to be able to handle like 2000 degrees. does n e 1 think thisll work?

That should work i think that shits for headers or what ever else you want use them for.It wont look pretty but it will work.

they actualy make it specialy for intake but it would only cover the part in the engine bay— here it is----Intake wrap

how long had the cars been sitting? If I bring my car to a stop and check the intake after driving it will be cold while the engine is hot, but after sitting 5-10 minutes it will be as warm as everything else.

obviously it is easy to copy an AEM, main differences are ease of fitment and emissions legality. if you live somewhere with smog checks and don’t want to swap in the stock one to pass, an AEM is emissions legal.

:bump:

I just put a ebay cai on my car a few days ago. I wouldn’t waste my money on an aem I think your pretty much payin for the sticker.

hows it sound? and did it fit good? i had problems with fitment of a front upper strut bar on my old teg. the dashpot on the intake mani wouldnt let it get down on both sides.

I have an ebay intake, and it fits alright…had to kinda shove it into place…but it sounds good

My sounds very loud but it didn’t fit quite right. It was too long if I would have left it how it was it would have been a few inches off the ground. So I just cut a peice off and it was fine.
