i’m thinking about purchasing an ebay header while i save up for turbo… so i don’t wanna spend a load of money that’s why i’m considering ebay…
has anyone purchased them? if so do they sound ok or fit properly… any problems with them?
i know im gonna get flamed for this but the xspower header is really nice for the money. xspower/ssautochrome is under new ownership and has new fabricators. thier stuff is ALOT better than it used to be…my buddy runs an xspower turbo manifold on his t-78 mk4 supra…he has zero issues with it and it looks amaizing.
If your saving up for a turbo why waste your money on a header?
The power gains from a header are so minimal its not even worth spending the $100 from ebay especially if you are saving for a turbo.

I bought a cheap ebay header (not xs) and all 4 welds at the flange cracked after the second week. Just throw a stock one on for now.

I am just finishing a serious soundproofing project on my 93. Fully stripped the interior and laid down three layers of soundproofing material. Thus, some extra weight now in the car (approx 150 lbs - maybe more!).
Im not really interested in a turbo, nor in racing as this is my daily car - the reason for the soundproofing was the long distance commute and obviously these cars are loud.
I was planning on a AEM and changing the exhaust system to add a bit more power - the car has 200k (not much oil burning yet), and its downright embarrassing sometimes trying to accelerate onto the freeway.
Eventually the engine will get rebuilt and then MAYBE I will follow what others have done - the pr3 pistons, etc.
But if any have other recommendations on relatively simple and worthwhile add-ons, Im all ears (especially since the car will be quieter! )
if your talking about a 4 - 1 header or a 4-2-1 … ive brought one from ebay has never gave me problems the fitment was good i also felt a good difference on the expressway its a knock off dc header … oh yeah i also brought a 6 puck w/ 8lb flywheel clutch kit from ebay and it works great the clutch peddle stiffness is like stock but grabs real good… name of clutch is XTD … hey who cares if its from ebay if it works f- it
a header is a header but if u want to make good power from a header than there are a few brands to get. weapon R full race header makes over 20 hp on a typer and is a copy of the hytech header it makes 1hp less than the hytech for hafe the price. hytech is $1400 wepon R is about $550. we had a header shot out at a local dyno and thats how i know the diff in hp from the 2 headers. my weapon R was used for testing. i think the dc header made like 9-12 hp if i remeber right. if u just want a header for the street and u dont race your car a header is a header the all copy in someway so dont wast your money. if u race all the time spend the money on a nice header.
barkingsheltie- what your car needs is just a rebuild. get that compression back to stock and it will feel a shit ton better than it probably does right now. a header and exhaust will not help. it will make your car sound faster but thats about it. rebuild that mofo!
