whenever i do hard acceleration, my ebrake light comes on. i know it’s because the cable needs to be adjusted, but could somebody shed some light on how i might go about fixing the problem correctly?
i’m gonna go mess with it now, so help would be appreciated
if you are talking about the red “brake” light then its is one of two things: you are low on brake fluid in you master cylinder( the more likely of the two) or your parking brake switch contacts are sticking (in the center console)
actually, i’m not sure what it is… i think it might be the contacts are touching…
i’ll try to explain when it happens; when i am revving to like 6 then do a hard shift, the light will come on for a brief second as if the handle is being pulled up slightly by the force of the car, or could this be as a result of the brake fluid slushing as the car gets jolted forward?
i checked out the contacts, and they look like theyre touching early, but i just want to rule out the possibilty that i could be low on brake fluid.
If you’re low on fluid, the brake light would come one after about 3 minutes of driving and stay on. What you describe sounds like contacts sticking, probably from many years of soda’s spilling on it. Take apart your center console, clean it, adjust your cables and then see what happens. My guess would be that when you shift, you’re somehow pushing down on the plastic of the center console, and that is pushing down on the plastic around you handle and that is pushing wires around causing it to connect.
one other thing it could be, the 2 wires on the cap could have shorted out. Disconnect them and see if the light stops coming on. If that works you can either replace the cap or drive around like that and keep an eye on your fluids. HTH
