Ebrake light still on.

Wsup G2IC, this morning i started up my car then notice that my EBRAKE light was still on. But my Ebrake lever was all the way down. I was messing around with my ebrake to see if it will turn off but nothings happening. My car is 1992 LS model, so NO abs. brakes were replaced like 4 months ago but my brakes are still good along with fresh brake fluid. Do i need to disconnect the battery to reset it or is there something loose?

Most likely it is the connector right by the emergency brake. It is only one wire (green i think) that connects to a push button. When the e-brake is engaged, the button grounds out and the light comes on. When disengaged, it pushes the button and no ground. Light goes out. You will have to remove the plastic under the dash…above your knees, then the center console where your cd player is, then the ebrake plastic covering to reveal the little push button switch. The wire could have came loose. The button could be stuck. Let me know what it looks like…send a pic?

Make sure your brake fluid is still full too…

I agree w/ mike to the 3rd LOL. I had the same problem. I couldn’t figure out what was causing the light to stay on. I just happen to be changing my oil and I noticed my brake fluid reservoir was less than half full. So, I filled it up. I went out to drive after the oil change and the light went out everytime I put down the parking brake. Before you start taking apart your dash and what not, check your brake fluid level first. Just my 2 Lincoln Heads. Good Luck.

Okay so apparently I popped open my hood and found out that brake reservoir cap was off the reservoir. I was like WTF!?!? Lost some fluid but filled it back up again. So my ebrake is working properly again. Thanks guys.

you guys realize that brake fluid shouldn’t be topped up, yeah? i mean, the fluid shouldn’t be going anywhere, unless there’s a leak or your brakes are low

also, the e brake cover comes off separately and without removing any of the dash trim. just for future reference
