Hey there guys just wondering for all of you ls/vtec heads out there im currently running a p72 ecu from a '94 GS-R my friend has run into a problem and is willing to buy my ecu from me for $300 and give a p28 ecu…my question is this a good idea?..is there any difference in running a p28 vs. a p72 in my car?..i am hooked up to a hondata stage 2 so i think im o.k…the reason he needs it is because he’s got a '96 sr-v and it has dual intake runners so the p72 will activate his initial runners along with his second set…let me know what you guys think.
well I’d do that deal some people think the p28 works even better than a p72- however I’m not positive since you already have the hondata package if you’d have to modify it to work on a DOHC motor. Just incase you didnt know- that’s from a 92-95 civic SOHC VTEC motor. If you didnt have the hondata, there’d be no ? you would have to modify it but not sure if you do I’d call the guys at hondata to verify. HTH
I had like 2 months ago the P28 with a JUN chip, and now i have a P72 OBD1 Skunk chipped and i got to tell you is a BIG difference…
the P72 combined with this chip have 2 stages in the VTEC…
in the first stage at 4,600 kick hard to the 6,800 and EXPLODE really to 9,500 or something…
I personally never rev my car up to 8,000… but i felt a big diference between 2 ecus…
the P28, P30 and P61 works fine but you dont have the gas and the air compared the P72 …

i am hooked up to a hondata stage 2
that will take care of any “gas and air” problems that he might’ve had with a stock p28 ecu. From my expeerience, there is little to no difference on a p72 vs a p28 once hondata is added to the equation
Thanks again guys…but i need to be sure before i go ahead and make the deal…the dual v-tec issue i have heard of but not sure if there really is a difference?..and i have seen people hold out for the p72 over any other ecu like the p28 for the ls/vtec setup.

I agree. Keep the ECU setup that you have right now. If you go with the P28, you’ll have to reprogram it to DOHC spec, mod to accept the Hondata chip, and tune it all over again. You don’t need to spend all that extra money for very little gains if any at all.
