LoWnSlOwDa9, thanks for the fast shipment. Everything looks great! Was wondering if you or anyone else on here have the original OEM Honda part number for the 2 long bolts included along with this kit? I would like to place an order for that at the local Acura dealer. Thanks!

For some reason im almost running out of threads on the shaft-tie rod, toe adjustment. it is still toed out. i dont want to get further where it ll be unsafe to drive. i dont want it to fail. anyone having this problem? did iinstall the wrong EF manual steering rack???

Did you use DA inner and outer tie rods?

outers, yes…but inners?? arent those fixed in the rack???

inners are definitely replaceable… i have both still so i’ll compare it tomorrow

Ok thanks. It just that Inner tie rods were never mentioned in this thread and no one has ever encountered this problem except me

thats a good question hoepfully you get a answer i wanted to do this just never had the chance keep us updated on your project

not quite sure… i read someone else on here use EF inner without any problems… as far as comparing them i haven’t been able to separate the inner and outer tie rods … they’re rusted together.

Below is the written part of the DA-EF Conversion instructions I sent with my bushing kits.

DA - EF Rack Conversion Bushing Kit Install Instructions.
Kit Contents
1 - Set Aluminum EF Steering Rack - DA Bushings (2 halves)
1 - 10x5.5mm Custom Aluminum Rack Angle Alignment Washer
1 - 10x55mm gear box mounting bolt
1 - 10x59mm gear box mounting bolt
2 - Plain 10mm washers
2 - 10x20mm Bushing Bolt/Washer
Optional: 1 90-93 Integra Energy Suspension Power Steering Rack Bushing Set

First work on the CRX rack out of the car if you don’t have it installed already. If you already have the CRX rack installed, skip to page 4. Swap inner and outer tie rods to 90-93 Integra units. Make sure fold the new locking washers on the inner tie rods. This will prevent them from backing out. You can replace the steering rack boots while you are at it if you would like. If you have ES bushings swap the small rubber bushings on the CRX rack with the ES version. Make sure to reuse the metal sleeve.

Once you are happy with the CRX-DA frankenrack, jack up the car and put on jack stands. Pull both front wheels. Drain power steering fluid and start removing power steering components. To fully remove the system you will need to pull the front bumper to gain access to the power steering fluid cooler. To remove hard lines with the motor still in the car, you will need to cut them in a couple of places as they are difficult to get out with the complex bends they have. You can leave them in if you want, it’s your choice.

Remove the plastic panels covering the steering rack and steering joint near the firewall behind your pedals. Remove the two bolts holding the steering joint to the steering rack pinion shaft (see below).

If you still have your center beam (from front cross-member to rear) remove that. Also remove your shift linkage from the transmission (change rod and stabilizer bar). Also remove the catalytic converter. Now remove cotter pins from steering tie rod ends and remove castle nuts. Use a tie rod puller and remove the tie rods from the left and right sides. Turn the steering rack all the way to right side. Remove the rack by pulling the two 14mm bolt heads near the steering rack gear box. Then remove the two bolts holding the rack with the bushing and holder. Slide the rack towards the passenger side of the car and then down.

The rack should now be out of the car. Remove any left-over hard lines from the power steering system. Install the CRX rack using the reverse method as listed above.
The aluminum shim will go between the rear mounting tab of the steering rack and the rear cross-member. This will change the angle of the pinion shaft to be less vertical and more like the original DA rack angle. The longer bolt goes where the shim was placed and the original length (shorter bolt) goes on the front mounting tab. Be sure to place the new 10mm washers beneath the bolt heads. Do not tighten any bolts until all bolts are started. Be sure to slide the steering joint up so you can slide it onto the pinion shaft once the rack is installed. The aluminum bushing goes between the CRX rack and the DA Rack bushing. Even the assembly out so that there is even gap on each side of the shim and bolt the holder down. Torque Rack mount bolts to 32lb-ft and the rack bushing holder bolts to 25lb-ft. The rack should look like this when mounted:

Once you have the rack mounted. Center the steering wheel and center the steering rack. Slide the steering joint onto the pinion shaft of the rack and bolt it down. Make sure the bolts to not bind as they are going in, if they bind adjust the steering joint up or down and try again. Once the steering joint is tightened (16lb-ft), bolt the tie rods to the steering knuckle and torque to 32lb-ft. Insert cotter pins and take the car to get an alignment. All finished.

Ran into some problems with the EF Manual Rack. It’s not mounting right…wondering if anybody can see if I’m doing something wrong.

  1. Got ES bushings w/the custom shims…my original da bracket does not want to sit flush.

  2. I got the spacer on the rear side of the rack but it sits to vertical.

any help/info would much be appreciated thanks!
