EG Front Caliper on my DA????

So I bought my DA back in August. I drove it, it was good. i started getting a shake in the front end. So i thought i would get new pads and rotors. i figured i might as well do some good old maintenance on the front end, ball joints, upper control arms, inner and outer tie rods, wheel bearings. i started taking the left side apart first, it all came apart nicely. i was getting ready to take the right side apart and it was verry different. i looked at the other side and i was right, its an eg caliper. or at least it appears to be. now i am wondering if someone changed the whole spindle, or if the caliper and the bracket actually fit without mods. if some one has ever done this swap or knows if it is possible can you let me know, what parts they may have or may have not used.

EG brakes calipers from an EX or SI model will swap directly into DA’s without any mods to the caliper or spindle. However all other (dx, cx etc…) model EG’s will NOT fit, they have 9.5 inch rotors.

3rd gen teg calipers (non type-r) will fit with no problems. They share virtually identical rotors, calipers and pads (however they show up as different part numbers at most auto stores…) . I believe someone on Honda-tech said that the DC rotors actually have a slightly different offset (like 1/16th of an inch) , but it is not enough of a difference to warrant any safety hazard as the caliper sliders should compensate for the difference.

Therefore it’s very possible that you have a caliper off of either a civic or a 3rd gen teg. The only way to confirm is to compare the part number on the caliper. Since you have mixed up calipers it would be a good idea to check that the person who installed the calipers did NOT change the knuckle. You MUST USE a DA knuckle! Although it is possible to install knuckles from an integra or civic, you’re suspension geometry will definitely be out of spec and it would be a safety hazard to drive with the wrong knuckles.

soooo… i pulled the right side apart and did all the measurements and put them side by side. the wonderful person who owned this car before me has put a spindle off of a civic, unsure of cx,dx,lx,hx or ex. the rotors are about an inch smaller. it also looks like the springs and shocks are also two different vehicles as well as the strut mount forks on the bottom. i am so livid that if i ever see this a**hole again i am going to beat him senseless.
i am loosing motivation, and ability to understand people and how they destroy cars. i love my DA i just cant afford to keep dumping money into anymore.:wahmb:

Ya, unfortunately it is a safety hazard to keep it the way it is. Not to mention you will have bad tire wear and uneven braking.

So either you can fix the problem or just sell the car and let someone else deal with the problem (although, make sure you wont be liable for any accidents that occur because of those parts and inform the buyer). Scour the junkyards for some used parts, you may have trouble finding that many parts in good condition at a junkyard since DA’s are pretty rare and all the good stuff is always gone.

Try: http://www.car-part.com/
that website actually helped me find some stuff I needed.

Anyways, I hope you figure it all out and good luck to you. Post some pictures!

i ordered a new spindle froma junkyard, when it arrived, i immediately had new wheel bearings and ball joints pressed in, they are ready to go, here is my newest question, should i get two new DA calipers, or is there a better oem type upgrade that will work with the new rotors i already purchased?

YA KNOW WHAT, I CAN PROBABLY JUST GIVE YOU A SET OF FRONT CALIPERS. IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS ILL HAVE A FEW SETS, I CAN GIVE YA ONE IF MONEY IS HONESTLY A BIG ISSUE FOR YA, EMAIL ME g4auto@gmail.com IF YOU ARE IN NEED GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CAR !!!

i appreciate the offer, but i am not really worried about paying for a caliper, i am just trying to figure out the best way to go. if i can fit a type r caliper on my da spindle i want to go that way. if the only thing i can replace my caliper with is a stock caliper then i will buy a new caliper. i like eg calipers because it is a quick change pad and i can swap them between runs at the scca events. but again if they wont fit on the da spindle, or over the stock da rotor, i would just go back to two stock calipers. Sorry if that seems like i am rambling, i just dont want people to think i am looking to do something cheap. plus this car just hangs out in the driveway.
