Ok G2IC ive read around all over this site for two days and really havent solved anything. I own a 91’ Integra GS, with of course an OBD0 LS. Since i’ve had the car ive had an issue with the EGR valve. Ive replaced it twice, replaced the gasket 4 times and still have that issue. Now to my knowledge the EGR’s were only on auto motors, thus this one is a manual, or it is possibly been converted to manual. I was told when i bought the car that it was all original(I care to differ now 7 months later). But, I wanting some info on either just unplugging the EGR or blocking it off, what it will do/and can cause? Or is it that maybe the ECU is an auto ecu(though it doesnt throw the auto-lock CEL) Im just wanting some info on what to do, cause im tired of letting off the gas and coasting in gear for a matter of 5 seconds then the CEL for EGR comes on
If it is a 5spd…you should have no use for the EGR regardless of it once being auto or not. As far as I know…even a auto ecu should still work with a 5 spd no issue. BUT…having a auto ecu AND still having an EGR valve could be your issue. I dunno how to tell if its an auto or manual ecu.
Had the same thing going on with my car. That auto ecu will always throw the egr code, of course. You will need a manual ecu. You can just do that and keep the egr on and you will be fine. Or I work in a cnc machine shop, I made a billet block off plate for mine. I could sell you one. When I had that setup the idle emissions were through the roof. Put in a manual ecu, no adjustments. Went and passed with flying colors.
You might be able to put a jumper wire in your auto ecu. I had a auto p28 ecu in my old civic and it threw a code and I just added a jumper wire in the ecu and I can’t remember but I might have cut a wire or removed a resistor. It cleared the code and I never had a issue after that. Just an idea. Not sure if it will work for your ecu or issue.
i have a '91 and a '90…my '91 just has a block off plate the same size as the egr port thats just bolted into place…where as my new 90 has “half an egr” lol ive experienced a few little issues with idle that seem to come and go…and when they happen all i do is smack the throttle quick (not full open) and it usually goes away…it does idle a bit high all the time though…could be the issue. just block it off would be my suggestion.
Well, doing that wouldn’t change anything. Besides actually remove the egr valve itself. Ecu will still be looking for it… and therefore it will continue to throw a code…Its not the IM that throws a code, its the ecu lol… so just get a manual ecu And u will be good to go.
well that’s what I ment assuming you already swapped to a manual ecu, I already have a manual ecu but the engine came off a auto chassis so it has that fully egr valve on the manifold.
plan on swapping the manifold later.
Yeah, if you’ve already fixed the problem by swapping the ecu… I didn’t feel like spending money and tearing my car apart so I made a billet block off plate at work lol.
Hey,
I’m only quoting you asking this because I see you’ve been active in the past couple of months, but is there any way in heaven or hell you could share more info on how to go about doing the jumper trick? (or any method for that matter, I can work with a soldering iron). I’ve got an original auto transmission/ECU '90 DA with everything EGR / emissions related removed from the old girl and I want to save my CEL but it seems unless I want to do a conversion to 5-speed and manual ECU I’m pretty much sh*t outta luck! I’m open to all suggestions.
I have researched into Xenocron but they don’t seem to support auto ECU’s at all.
