Eibach Sportline w/ KYB GR2 problems

As some of you know, I had my car lowered on Eibach Sportline with KYB GR2 last week. I bought the springs used from a member on the board, the KYB’s are brand new.

Now, I need your help, I saw pics of member integguy91 car’s who has the same setup as me, and he has like a 2 finger gap all around, my question is: why do I only have 1/2 finger gap up front and 1 finger in the rear? I should be at the same height? My car is too low now, ride quality is quite bad since I have about no suspension travel…

What could cause this?? I did a search and found out that other members with the same setup as me had a similar problem, and other had no problems… Could this be a problem with the shocks? Having the same setup should give the same results… I’m currently riding on my stock alloys.

I’m lost! help me please!!!

here’s a pic of the springs:

do they look normal??

.

well… what size tires are you running? the pic i showed was on 195/60/14 toyo proxes H4… cuz if you’re running a diff. size tire then you’re either gonna have less wheel gap or more. another factor to look at is, who installed them? what color and model number do you have? are any of the springs cut?

I’m running 185-65-14 tires, about the same as yours. I had them installed at an alignment shop I know. The guy I bought the springs from said they weren’t cut and offered me to give me my money back, so I assume they aren’t cut.

The springs are the right part number, 4.1040 if I remember correctly(I did checked on the web and they are the right ones).

But why would some members have the same problem and some not? This really bugs me…

Could it be a problem with the shocks? Bad springs?

Silly question but are you sure that your tires are as low profile as the Proxies?? I doubt it… They have extremely minimal sidewalls and a very flat footprint. Also, are you running the same tire pressure in every tire? I have heard that tegs will naturally sit a little lower in the rear. I noticed this when I put my springs in (if your springs were relatively new, they may not have settled in yet). In my set up, I have Suspension Tech. Pro springs (1.5" but settled to 2" on all 4 corners) with Tokico Illumina struts. I noticed a gap more so at first. My ride height is a little lower in the rear but I don’t suppose that has anything to do with the rebuilt mdf trunk, fiberglass amp rack, subs, tripple amp set up or the tools I keep back there rolling about… lol

Take your foot and push down hard on the rear bumper. Does the car ‘bounce’??? If so, you have either got the wrong strut or you may have a leak in one of the seals. Yes… sometimes they do come with a leak. As far as I know, you should be ok with a warranty through KYB. Tokico gives a lifetime warranty and I think KYB gives a similar one (don’t quote me) – I thought they were made under the same roof anyway…

Put 30psi in each tire, pull all the crap out of the trunk and park on level ground… Any change?? Have you had any major suspension components replaced recently?? A trailing arm, ball joint, cv, axle?? If so, maybe something was misaligned… Any drivability problems??

When are you going to be up this way anyway?? We can compare idle problems… I think mine is a rear transmission mount. If not, I am going to jump off the roof. I was under the car yesterday changing the oil and doing an inspection of sorts… I noticed that directly below the oil filter housing there’s the ‘skeleton’ on a transmission mount. In other words, there’s a long bolt in a framed in mount without ANY rubber in it! I’ll have to check Helms but I think this is a problem… lol

HTH

Andrew.

well, I don’t know if the proxies are really the same as mines(they are winter tires), but there’s quite a big difference! and my car sits lower in the front! I asked a guy I know if he could bring his digicam at work today so I could show you, but the front is definately lower!

and the car isn’t bouncy, i’ll retry, but when I tried, it was not…

and nothing changes even on a flat surface with nothing in the trunk…

maybe I got the wrong shocks in the front… I know the back once are ok since I saw the part number on their box, but I didn’t saw the front ones… I did had the trailing arms replaced not long ago, but everything was properly realigned.

i’ll go see you one day neex!!

ok, I tried it with my 16" rims with 205-45-16 tires and had about the same gap… 1 finger in the front, I didn’t tried the rear ones.

I also checked the part numbers on the GR2’s and they are the right ones for my car…

So what could be wrong? I noticed a kind of “resting place” that seemed to be rubber on the top of the springs(on the shock tower), could this be bad an thus, leaving the car lower in the front? (I hope what I just said makes sense! lol!)

help me please!!
