I am looking to get better fans for my DA…any ideas for nice electric ones?
look for a spal fan with the S blades. you wont find better. if you have a stock setup and want more space those universal slim fans are fine if thats what you want. the stock fan though is enough for if your engine isnt modded.
I’m using the PROCOMP 12" Universal “S” Blade Fan for over a year now and still no problems.
here’s their website:

here’s where you can get it for cheaper:

I actually bought mine on ebay through northcoast performance, and i just bought another one from them last week.
Does anyone know the CFM for the stock blades? and how hard are those fan blades to install? do i need anything else for them?
i installed my fan in a couple of minutes. i bought the mounting zip ties with them too.
and are you looking to see how many fans you need? both flex-a-lite and permacool recommends that your radiator be covered 70% with a fan. and permacool recommends at least 1600cfm total for a 4 cyl engine.
i was gonna get two…so you got the two 12 inch ones and mounted them on the radiator? not hard at all? thats good…did you try putting them in front of the radiator?
i actually only used one 12" fan, it was sufficient enough for me. even though i know i should have went with 2 instead.
i believe two of them will fit since the radiator is 26-27" wide. and the procomp radiator fans are only 12.5"
two 10" might be a better fit. just measure it before you buy.
i put my fans in puller configuration behind the radiator. if you put it in front you must put it in pusher.
where are the mounting zip ties…i dont see them on the site
yeah i don’t see them either… but these are the same ones that i bought:

they sell these “radiator fan mounting kits” at auto parts stores aswell. autozone for sure, i’ve sourced some there before.
now do i just wire these things up and let them go…or is there some wiring i have to do…because i found kits online that include a switch
on one car i have it wired to a flex-a-lite adjustable temp switch which comes with its own sensor…
and on another car i just cut the pigtails from the stock radiator fan and wired them to the slim fan (2-wires) and it works perfectly fine.
where do i get the adjustable thermostats? i like that idea
http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/electric-fan-accessories.html
Part# 31147-Adj. Temp Sensor
(20 amp rating)
Turns fan on/off at the desired temperature. Dial-adjustable 180º-240ºF. Gives the freedom to set one temperature for occasional high-demand use, then reset for highway or day-to-day driving.
i bought it from summit racing:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLX-31147&N=700+115&autoview=sku
you can either have it hooked up straight to your battery (fused) which means that it will continue to run if the temperature is hot enough. or you can put it on a switched source so that when the car turns off the fans turn off.
installing it is pretty simple all you have to do is wire up a couple of wires, depending on how you want the switch to operate. the sensor, all you have to do is push it through the radiator fins so that it goes through the radiator… installing it closer to the upper radiator hose is the best. and then all you have to do is just mount the switch somewhere.
thanks a lot i had talked to someone about this before
do you know normally what temperature the fans keep the radiator at?
stock radiator fan switch turn on between 196ºF - 203ºF
i edited my post above to include the degree sign, (that wasnt suppose to be an extra zero)
now you just bought the set from the first link…didnt need relays?
are you referring to the fan or the adjustable temp switch? b/c i gave you alot of links lol.
anyhow if you’re referring to the temp switch… its the same one, flex-a-lite. i just gave you the summit racing one b/c i bought it from there and you wont be able to purchase it directly anyways.
i was just wondering if you had to buy a relay for the temp control device or if that is just for if you have air conditioning…i no longer have a/c in my car i do have heat tho…but that has a blower
also if i get two, will i need to buy two mounting sets? or is there something i can buy to mount them together? something like this: http://www.dougherbert.com/tornadodual12-p-12125.html
