Not sure if this was the right place to put this but anyone actually gone through and incorporated electric power steering in our cars? I was thinking the S2000 set up looks the most compatible compared to other honda setups honda has in their line up. Wanted to use something factory. Any one see any issues that might need to be addressed with the S2000 setup to get it to work with our cars? ANy other suggestions on a different route to take?
Theoretically this would be possible, but you’ll definitely have to fab up your own p/s lines from the rack up to the pump (high pressure), and from the reservior to the pump (low pressure). Finding a place to mount the pump might be hard and the wiring might be a little tricky as well.
If you get this to work, keep us updated. My p/s pump is leaking again, this could potentially be a good alternative and free up some power.
I’ve actually been mulling an idea around similar to this. The only thing I see wrong with using the S2000 PS setup is that it uses it’s own independent ECU. Which means more wiring and more headaches. However, before I read this post I was thinking about using an electric heavy duty external oil pump wired directly into the ECU (using and aftermarket like Hondata or AEM of course) using the additional settings they give you and setting up a window at which point the pump will turn on and off at certain speeds. After reading your post I realized my 2004 Mazda3 has an electric PS pump that runs off of voltage from the VSS. So theoretically you can tap into your VSS to give the pump the signal to turn on and off. Oh and I’m also having a hard time finding S2000 pumps online. The Mazda3 is readily available though.
im just spouting off at the mouth here but isn’t our VSS mechanical? I wonder how hard it would be to wire up the independent ECU from the S2000? Honestly i was just browsing oemacuraparts.com and ran across the s2k p.s. diagram and lightbulbed the idea. My car wont be getting torn down for at least another month so this wont be something i would be getting into until at least then.
Originally yes. But you can always swap out the VSS and use the 94+ sensor.
wouldnt that mean you would have to swap out the cluster as well?
Lol yeah. But Considering I’m already swapping to the S2’s cluster that’s not a big deal for me. But for you I suppose that would be an issue, lol.
:goyou:
Wouldn’t know the first thing about making it work, but good luck. subscribed
Maybe just use a toggle switch on the pump. When you are in the city flip the switch. When you are on the highway turn it off. I wouldn’t mind it as long as the car wasn’t ghetto and hand reasons to why there wasn’t conventional p/s lol.
guys i been thinking about this for a long time…this is what i plan on doing…I plan on using a 2nd gen mr2 I guess like a 91 mr2 or so for example that came with electronic PS…and all you need to wire up is positive and ground to a switch…and about the high pressure hose set up…since Karcepts already makes a Mr2 PS compatible kit for K series motors…i talked to them and they would be willing to fab me one for my DA as well …all they need is the fitting size on the PS rack with perfect measurements and the rest of the fittings they have them…hope this helps guys…
Couldn’t we just use braided stainless lines all the way around?
While I don’t know much about adapting the pump, I do know that the lines have to transmit a few hundred PSI, so as long as the lines would hold, it might be a good idea.
I typically don’t play around with high pressure pumps and all that, so should be interesting to see what you all come up with.
this sounds promising.
+1
What did they quote you on a price for a kit? I know they didn’t make a lot of those MR2’s either, so hard to find parts for, but if it works, I’m game.
the expensive part is the mr2 pump…used ones go from anywhere from 150-200 new ones are 300-400…but besides that karcepts quoted me around 100 bucks shipped i believe in whatever length…I forgot the guys name but i will look through my emails and see what the guys name was…
