Hey guys I’ve been searching on ever forum for some info on parts in the bay that i can get rid of some info
It a 91 gs 4door i intend to us the car for road racing the only thing thats been taken out so far is the ac any help would be great thanks
How about the cruise control, or some track racers take out the ABS for weight and upgrade brakes. Also, look into doing a simple wire tuck. Theres not a whole lot you can take out of the Engine bay for weight savings. The Majority will be found inside the car and suspension.
on the GS you can ditch ABS ( as mentioned) do a manual rack swap and ditch the power steering, & also yank and delete the AC system.
how do you convert to manual rack?
with a manual steering rack from an EF, with new integra inner and outer tie rods and a custom made aluminum bushing set and spacer so it bolts rite on
Don’t bother with a wire tuck unless you know what you doing and you plan on doing it smart. The way most wire tucks are done are usually a disadvantage for a track car. You want access to your wiring, and especially your fuses in case you need to troubleshoot things. Plus, during a wire tuck people often move wires from inside the engine bay to outside the engine bay, this could pose an increased risk of fire and/or electrical damage should you have an accident.
Are you prepping the car for a specific series? or just track days? Do you have any experience driving a car on a race track?
thnx
to delete the ABS on a GS, do you just need to replace the ABS unit with the non abs proportioning valve and the brake lines on the firewall?
as for items you can delete.
power steering. saves weight.
cruise control.
if your abs is failing the.convert to non-abs.
inter AC system in engine bay if its failing or you don’t care.
optional half civic dual core radiator.
traction bars. saves weight.
small Odyssey battery relocated or moved down next to Trans with custom box.
pretty much all you can do to clean it up
as for weight reduction you can get carbon hood, maybe cut your doors by cutting the bottom face of Tue doors and removing the safety crash bar inside. only drag and full race cars do that. I wouldn’t daily it.
My dad owns a 67 mustang that’s set up for roadracing I’ve never driven it but i helped create an tune it over the yrs an i deleted the ac power steering on my car my only problem now is my transmission has a grap between the block an housing close to the firewall an all the bolts r in i just hope i don’t have to drop it again
that is about the gist of ot, yu will also have to fabricate a couple lines to connect the prop valve to the rest of the system from what I remember reading. There is an article about doing it on here.
Thnx. I have 91 ls tht has no ABS and I just bought a straight frame 91 GS with ABS. I was planning on just “swapping” the hard lines.
