Engine bay part ID w/ pic

Hey guys, I went to look at this 92 teg today and noticed a lot of oil that has leaked from that black plug with the ghetto sealant on it. First, what is that part for and why has it been sealed? Second, Would this be an easy fix and would this leak have caused any damage to the car?

I know this might be obvious as fuck but help me out here guys. Thanks in advance!

Its a cam-cap seal. It wouldn’t cause engine damage unless it leaked out all of the oil and the motor seized. Very unlikely. The new ones from the dealer are easy to put in and they don’t require disassembly of anything. You might have to loosen the cam-cap that holds the seal down, in order to get the old one out.

Thanks for the quick reply man! I just saw a lot of oil on the block so I didn’t want to get something problematic.

It’s your cam end plug.

There are also aftermarket versions that you can buy if you want some bling, many many companies make them. Here’s one example:

It’s very easy to replace with simple hand tools and a factory service manual.

Thank you Colin! That clears it up.
