I have a 91 stock integra LS with 211k miles on it. When I accelerate sometimes from a stop light in 1st gear engine hesitate for a second and sometimes power takes a few seconds to kick in no matter what gear I am in. What the car feels like when this happens is like when you put your car in a high gear like 4th or 5th when you should be in lower gear while going only 25 mph. The car will accelerate and move forward the rpm will rise from idle to 3k or whatever then all of a sudden power is back and its behaving normal again.
ALSO with the car warmed up when i rev the car hard, foot all the way down and let go, there is a initial hesitation / shake before revving up. But If i rev the engine in neural slowly/gently it does not hesitate and the rev sounds normal up to red line.
What i have done to try to fix this -
New plug wires
Spark plugs have 10k miles on them - thinking i should pull and look at the condition
New cap
New rotor
New Fuel filter
Cleaned the IACV today
Thanks for the reply. Here is an update…weird thing is after I cleaned the IACV and test drove the car the symptoms were still there but as I drove the car more the problem went away…lol. I did put in a bottle of techron out of desperation about 100 miles ago maybe that worked? Anyways hope this issues is actually fixed, I put 50 miles on so far and it seems good.
i had this same issue up until about 3 days ago. and the weirdest thing fixed it, i replaced the IAT sensor… after i had already replaced the tps, plugs, cap, and rotor lol
Symptoms came back so I cleaned all the ground cables I can easily access. The ground to the chassis near the radiator and two ground points on the top of the valve cover. The exposed portion of the wires were all covered with black soot and some rust - cleaned with electrical cleaner and sand paper. Also cleaned the battery terminals.
Anyways I put 150 miles on since…I hope its all fixed now.
I have the same issue comes and goes, I only have 2 ground points .
1 from the rad support to the head next to the power steering and other is from the chassis to the transmission. If it was the ground on the engine it would sputter and backfire like a mother.
It happened to me when I forgot to torque down the ground on the thermostat housing.
