engine miss

So a while back I had a problem with my idle on my DA but now it is missing on the number 1 cyl. I checked out my plugs and decided to change them just to start there. I pulled the wires out 1 at a time and was not getting fire on that plug wire, so changed out the cap and button. It is now getting fire there, but still missing. I un plugged the injectors 1 by 1 and every cyl I did it to it started sputtering and when I unplugged number 1 it did nothing. I swapped the injector out with another one and it still is missing, so I swapped number 1 and number 2 injectors and the problem stayed on number 1 cyl. The only other idea I had was to check the wires to see if it wasn’t working, and all the plugs tested out good. I might have checked them with the volt meter wrong but all 4 plugs were reading the same when I turned the car over a few times. Also did a compression test on it just to see and all 4 are running at 160-165. I am out of ideas and don’t know where to go with it, anyone have any ideas?

Swap your plug wires between cylinders.see if the problem follows the wire. Don’t power balance by killing ignition. It’s hard on the coil. Disconnect the injector instead. If the problem isn’t the wire, check for injector pulse at number 1. Report back

I have already swapped around the wires. I checked the voltage on all 4 of the injector plugs last night

Spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold, t body, vacuum lines, if that changes idle then you have a vacuum leak there.

Did you check the timing? Maybe your belt is off?

Just changed the timing belt when water pump went out abou 3 months ago. Timig was set then. The only other thing is its showing a code for coolant temp sensor. I read it today when i moved it around

Neither timing nor a vac leak is going to cause a miss in a solitary cylinder. There are only a handful of possibilities. Cap, wire, plug, compression, injector, wiring to it, injector driver. That’s pretty much.

When checking plug wires, they are resistance tested. Not voltage. Don’t rely on resistance testing. Swap them and see if the miss follows the wire, if you haven’t already. If the wire checks out, ignition side is good. Check for pulse at the injector. Use a 194 marker bulb. Peel the tangs back. Disconnect the injector. Insert the tangs into the injector connector. With the engine running, see if the bulb flashes. If it doesn’t, you have no pulse. Report back with your findings

Pull out the spark plug, check to see if the piston is clean.
Could have blown head gasket or leak on #1 since it is the hottest cylinder. Check your coolant for oil or under the oil cap for a white milky vapor.

he’s got good compression. matter of fact, pull the plug out and see if there’s fuel on it. since it’s not firing, it should be soaked.

I will check all of these friday since im off work. Im work nights so ill let yall know

So i got a set of 194 bulbs and bent the wires back, when i plugged it into one of the good injector conectors the filiment started turning red but i could notice a pulse. When i plugged it into the number 1 injector conector it did the same thing. Filiment started turning red and had a pulse. Im assuming that means the wires are good but one thing i am wondering, is the bulb supposed to light up bright like if it was plugged into the cornner light or what?

it’s not supposed to stay lit. just flash. but yes, the bulb is what draws current. so the bulb will draw the same current as if it were plugged into the marker socket.
so you have pulse. did you try swapping the plug wire? also, you did check and gap the plugs when you installed them, yes?

but just to be clear, the bulb will likely not reach as bright as a marker since it will not be lit long enough.

Ok i was just wondering. Yes i gapped the plugs to the correct gap. Ima swap the connectors in a little bit. And yes i have swapped the plug wires around

after running, remove the #1 spark plug and check for fuel on it. it should be soaked.
and when you checked for injector pulse, the bulb flashed, yes? not solid?

bulbs did pulse and i will check it in the mornning

So i changed out my tps sensor today because the idle was not responding like it should and the car would stall out when i het the gas hard. Changed it out an no more problem with that but when i started it up you could hear the miss even more now. When i hit the gas i can see white smoke comming out the back and it smells like straight gas. I also pulled the plug and it smelled like gas, wasnt soaked in gas but could smell some on it.

ok, sp you clearly have fuel. you said you tried swapping a known good injector? it’s either ignition or compression then. you said previously comp numbers were within spec. go to the autoparts store and pick up an HEI ignition tester. it’s the only way to correctly test ignition. they’re cheap and easy to use. it’ll also be an asset for any future issues. HEI test cyl 1

i hope you’re not driving it around as is. you could glaze the cylinder walls quite easily

Well its ben a few days but i finally broke down and took it to a buddys shop. I havent been driving since the miss got worse, i would just start it up and move it around the parking lot so the front office wont get pissy about it sitting. I did have to drive it over to his shop, but it was only 10 mins away. Ill let everyone know when i find something out on it.
