So i noticed that my teg would stutter (sp?) when i would hit little bumps while driving. It would also happen when i would launch the car or shift hard into 2nd. So i bring it to the shop and they said my motor mounts are busted. Does this sound right to you guys? And if so what do i have to do. Will buying and installing those motor mount inserts help my life or what? Cuz they wanted almost $600 to change the damn things. Thanks for the help.
If your mounts broke, getting inserts won’t help until you replace the broken mounts.
but $600 seems a bit too much to install mount inserts…
this is such a dumb misconception…If your mounts are torn, broken, cracked, whatever…inserts WILL fix your problem. my front mount (tranny mount) was so screwed up that the metal shaft in the center had been completely torn away from the outer metal shell. I got the ES poly kit, re-assembled the mount (the ES kit even has holes & fasteners to hold everything together in case you’re dealing w/ a situation like this. even if they didn’t provide the fasteners, once you get the inserts in the mount & bolted up, the sides of the mount bracket hold everything in place anyway (not to mention the bolt going through the center of everything) I say you order the ES or Prothane insert kit & install it yourself. It’s kind of a pain in the ass, but if you have a floor jack & basic tools, you can do it.
thanks SiLeNcE2. thats exactly what i wanted to get clear. wasnt sure if i need WHOLE new mounts or if i could just get the insert kit. Sweet thanks again :whew:
When I pulled my motor to do some work I noticed that the side mount on the tranny side was busted really bad. I just filled them all with windo-weld and now they’re stronger and stiffer than ever. No more engine movement or wheel hop.
i am goin to do mine too i think all of my motor mounts are bad and i dont want to bring the car to a shop coz its too much expensive,:argh: i have less mechanical experience but i am willing to do it my self to save up some money.by the way i have 1991 integra ls automatic 211k miles on it this is my very first post here and i need help on how to replace the motor mount how hard is it and regarding on where to jack up my engine to replace the all 4 mounts is there anybody who have any idea on how to do it thank you in advance
Welcome to G2IC. Next time please start your own thread instead of hijacking one.
I’ve done mounts, its not as hard as it might seem at first. The front mount can be done fairly easily by just removing it, no weight sits on it, its there to keep the engine from twisting. The drivers side is not too hard. Put a jack under the oil pan below the mount and put a 2x4 or some scrap wood between the jack and the pan. Raise the jack until you start to feel tension. I like to use the OEM tire jack from the car because you can finely adjust it unlike a hydraulic jack. Then you can safely remove the drivers mount and replace it. The transmission mount on the passenger side is essentially done the same way, but there is some stuff like the air intake in the way that needs removed first. The rear mount is the pain in the ass, good luck with that one. You might want to invest in a Factory Service Manual or even a Haynes or Chiltens to give you a good idea of what needs to be removed. Good luck!
i just did mine on the driver side thank you therealkroysc for the instruction and i took it off and inspect it,it was really bad the rubber was totally toast and broken into pieces.i took a picture when i have it off the engine to share it to you and while and putting the new one guess what? it wont fit right maybe they gave me the wrong parts…idk or maybe i wasnt installing it properly it wont go right in i been trying to move the engine up and down with the support i put underneath the engine still wont go in i mean the two bolts near the upper timing belt cover did i miss something or what .i was thinking to remove the opposite side but i run out of time its getting dark outside the garage is there any ways to have this installed? i have the all 4 mounts sittin right now its an aftermarket motor mounts… do you think this cud be the problem why it wont fit right because maybe the guy gave me the wrong parts i was thinkin about the other three too thank you so much…
