im in the midle of pulling the motor almost there but im hearing that you HAVE to pull the trans with it … my trans is fine and the motor is being replace with the same 1 … i dont see y you have to pull them together
car is a 90 integra gs 2door 5speed if that helps and info will be greatly appreciated … thanks
You can pull the motor out seperately but it makes it alot harder to put back in because you then have to align it with the transmission while trying to align it with the mounts. If you have a hoist you might as well just pull the motor and trans out together, trust me you’ll save alot of time and aggrevation.
:iagree:
im in the same boat man, in fact most likely wednesday ill be doing this.
Belive me its a lot easier to get a transmission on and off out side of the car.:whisper:
thanks guys … makes sense il probly try pulling just the motor but if its to hard i will take out the trans … i thought the reason why they say pull em out together was somthing diff like the shaft to the trans is too long or something … any 1 wanna buy a old motor lol
Yeah if you’re swapping the engine I would take both of them out. They were designed just so that dropping only the tranny would be easy for clutch changes but pulling just the engine and trying to line up everything again with the new engine is going to be a lot more of a headache then you’re going to want.
b18a1 from usa (stock) -b18b from japan
i just noticed somthing while i was doing this swap … the motor i have in the car is a b18a1 and the new motor is a b18b i pulled intake manifold and everything seems to match up … but i see 2 sensors in the back of the motor by the oil filter and the b18b does not have those 2 … 1 of the sensor seems like it can be swapped over but the other one im not sure … has any1 ever did this before … a b18a1 to a b18b …the engines look identical the sensors on the head matches up perfect but im a lil shakey on these 2 in back … any info would be awsome… thanks
i believe on on the back is the temp sensor and you will have to extend the wires from your original on that mounts on the water outlet to reach the back of the block
i pulled 3 motors just recently (all 91 integra’s) and trust me pull the motor and tranny all in one i did it… its just the trick of where to hook it on the chain for the hoist so that it is at the right angle and then slowly hoisting up and making sure you dont hit the brake master… its a tight squeeze but hey its worth the time you save
Thanks for all the help i have finished the swap … i know i shouldve responded sooner but internet problems … anyway got the motor in fires up , no tick no knock no smoke … runs like new … anyway was wondering about that temp sensor the wire colors on the stock harnes are different from the new engine … the harnes has 1 blk and 1 color im assuming a ground is blck . but the other one from new engine has 2 colors … so i put the darker color with the black 1 ( i know its not smart to guess but i figure worst case il get a check engine or pop a fuse ) i plugged it in and car runs fine … but car also runs fine without it , how am i to kno if the wires are correct ? . anyone by any chance know the colors lol ? or were i can find it ? thanks again:D
umm… i don’t know if it’s gonna be a problem, BUT make sure your cooling fan turns ON and operating the way it should be. if it turns on after about 10-15 minutes after engine warms up then your ok, but if it doesnt…then i dunno ask again, im sure there are a few members here who have done the swap before and should know what to do.
