So many of you might have seen a couple of the threads i’ve posted over the past month about my car not passing smog, going to the Ref, and the smoke coming out of my car.
My question on this thread is,
how much would it cost for a leak down test?
if in fact it is my valve seals, how much would that run?
if it’s my piston rings, how much would that cost?
is there any place i can find a b18a1 for cheap in san diego?
You can do the leak down you’re self. But you take it to a shop,it might be around 50/80 bucks give or take.
If its valve seals or piston rings, the motor has to be taken apart anyways so its best to just rebuild the motor. But you can also get a newer low mile JDM motor for the price of a rebuild off of www.hmotorsonline.com
@ 91_LS: Yeah hmotorsonline.com have some good deals on b18b’s but i dont want to go through the hassle of getting another wire harness, ecu, etc… i just want to do a straight b18a1 drop in with no problems. right now im currently searching san diego to see if i would either benefit from a rebuild or a used engine; but many people around here (san diego) have engines that are already out which makes it harder to inspect.
As far as removing a b18a and installing a 93-95 b18b goes, theres nothing special about it. Same engine basically. Just swap the long block and keep your original intake and exhaust manifolds. Hell a 5 speed b18b intake manifold might be just the same as a b18a.
