engine sputter/miss fires on cold start

ok so it’s getting cold maybe low 60 and my car started to sputter or miss last night until it warmed up. next day around noon it did the same and shut down.
can’t read the cel need some help

Code 1-o2 sensor

I could of told you that before watching the video. Cold start issues like that are common with o2 sensor malfunction

If you have a smartphone, download the app honda database

my car doesnt have a o2 and never had this issue last year.

what? how do you not have an o2 sensor? are you running just a wideband?

the code that is flashing on your ecu is code 1… which is 02 sensor… not sure where to go from here

Yeah sounds like o2.

but he doesnt have an o2 sensor and hasnt had one so it makes this problem weird that he would randomly get an o2 sensor problem like this

:hmm:

yup… also stumped…

maybe that thing attached to the fire wall with the vacuum lines may be at fault…

Are you running engine management? I’m missing something…you are simply not running an 02 on a stock car?

The only way he’s been running no O2 without receiving a CEL is a chipped ECU… At least that is the only way I can imagine. And being that his car is a '91 (as per his profile), that means OBD0.

If he’s running a chipped ECU and suddenly this issue popped up out of nowhere, that is a strange scenario indeed.

Yeah it is strange. Please give us more detail on the ECU setup. Have you checked obvious issues like checking for spark, checking cap/rotor, plugs, fuel etc just as a sanity check? We don’t know anything about the ecu, it could be a completely different issue and the ECU just doesn’t know how to handle the error…since we already know it’s been modified or isn’t functioning like stock.

maybe its been throwing the code this whole time and now that something is wrong he just now looking at the ecu and the problem isnt o2 sensor related at all…

all this speculation… the suspense is killing me :stare:

its always throne the o2 code but now on start up and even after it warms up it runs like crap.
idle is down to 500 and sputters so much smoke comes out the back and get stong burnt fuel smell.
my ecu is stock, engine stock other than my hyend headers.
I havent installed one ever since I recovered it from being stolen and stripped.
last nite I cleaned the vavle under the t/b and it ran better but still sputtered and missed.
also changed the diss cap, rotor seemed fine, spark plugs are 4 mo old.

I have a spare obd0 b16a disstributor and swap it next time it does it.

Try putting an o2 senor and see what happens. Try changing your fuel filter as well

That^.

If it’s throwing a code, you know something is wrong… You can’t expect it to stay running normally if parts are failing on it.

Failing O2 can cause multiple problems so replacing that will definitely aid in getting the car back to normal.

Well his o2 sensor isnt failing since he doesnt have one installed to begin with. If his car is running weird all of sudden i would say start with installing an o2 sensor and go from there.

my cousin has a wide band o2 can I run that with my stock setup.

well yes, you CAN use a wideband with a stock ecu BUT you NEED a regular o2 sensor to work with a stock ecu…

ok so it still does it and no codes are thrown. my o2 code is normal to me since I never had the o2.
sure it comes on after a 5 min drive but it never changes how the engine ran.
now it randomly runs like it camed. engine will be fine then at a stop it would drop rpms and miss with no codes. will a bad tps do this. I ran it unplugged once and it sounded close to the same.
if I test it now I can’t tell if it started like that or if it’s the sensor being unplugged.

Obd0 with a wideband… That’s useless. Obd0 o2 are narrowband 1wire … Id install your o2 back in try to make sure all sensors are functioning , check for continuity to your tps, I’d check all your vacuums connections too , don’t throw parts at it check all the free and easy stuff
