engine swap question?

I have a ‘91 integra LS and I was talking with a guy at a show with the same car about his engine. He has a b16 a sir 1 long block and he only paid 600 for the engine. He told me to go to this website hondamotorsonline.com, which i did and i saw the engine for 450$. Is this a good price for this engine it is rated at 160 hp and 113 lbs. of torque. does anyone else have or no of anyone else with this engine? i really need more power and for the money this isn’t a bad start. any input would be greatly appreciated. on another topic did anyone watch the MTV special on streetracing last night? That g2 integra was killin’ them.

It all depends what kind of shape the engine is in, I would think…

I would be kinda worried buying an engine that cheap…
but that’s just my opinion…

I have a B16A out of a CRX SiR in my 91 LSS. To complete the swap you will need a PWO or PR3 ECU. it is a pretty straight forward swap. Use the harness off of you B18A motor and make a sub harness for the Vtec pressure, Vtec selonoid, knock sensor and 2nd O2 sensor. You will also have to get a 2nd O2 bung welded on to the header. You will have to add a few pins to the ECU harness and move the Power steering pressure pin to a different location. Take a look at Dan’s swap guide in teg tips. :stuck_out_tongue:

go to the teg tips and download the Engine swap guide. read it over and over and over until its pretty much committed to memory. That guide is essential for anyone considering a vtec swap into their G2.

Dont forget the extra $500 for the tranny that you will be needing for that motor. You would be very unhappy with an LS tranny on a vtec motor.
And yes, $450 is a good price for that motor and for the most part, the motors that they sell at that site are in good condition. Maybe a sensor here or a wire there that needs to be replaced.
Then you will have to consider the $500-1000 it will cost for the swap to be done because from the sounds of it I am going to guess that your not going to be able to do it yourself…
Then another $200 for the ECU and you should be good to go.

It adds up fast, but if you really want vtec then get it. Personally, I think that the b16 is a weak motor out of the box. The higher horsepower amazes people but they arent looking at how much torque they are losing by getting that motor. There is more than peak horsepower to a motor…
You could just spend a few hundred dollars on some cams, cam gears and valvetrain for your b18a and take out any stock b16 all day long.

Dont take my post the wrong way. The b16 is a good motor, that is for sure. It is just that you have to build it to make it what you want it to be.

Like these guys said, I wouldn’t do a b16 swap unless you’re motor and/or tranny is shot (like mine). There are also other swaps you can do for more power and torque (and money). Good luck.

ever think on doin a b20?

I haven’t really considered the b20 swap but thanks for all the info on the added cost of the engine swap. i will definitely go to teg tips and read the engine swap section. nothing is wrong with my engine now it just isn’t fast enough so i might take the good advice given and just switch out the cams, cam gears, and other stuff to make it more powerful.

r u saying with the valves and cams and other extras i could get 160 hp out of this engine? thanks for your input!

I think as he way trying to say, it’s not the peak number that counts.

member g2integrity is getting around 150hp to the wheels which I believe will be somewhere around 170-175 at the flywheel. He has an LS motor with crower 403’s gears i/h/c/e, safc, and a few other little things and a bit of weight reduction and a stock ecu. That’s what I’m looking to do as well.
