engine temp for the fan to kick on?

so I am trying to tune my car and the fan is not kicking on. My tuner told me that the motor is heating up to 205 and the fan should be one at 195. I am just wondering if that is true about when the fan should kick on. I am running the factory fans. One doesn’t turn on unless the ac is on. I told my tuner that the fan takes awhile before it turns on. The heat gauge on the car is normal though. It’s just pissing me off cause he isn’t tuning it until he figures out the fan issue. So what is the temp before the fan should kick on?

My fans are wired up stock obd1 and they come on about 205~210, and my cluster gauge is still in the middle

Check the Electrical chapter in your Helms manual. Page 23-102. Fan switch is on when coolant temps are >194F/90C.

Regardless, if car is left ideling, at some point the rad fan should turn on, if not check the ECT switch. 94

Hair over the middle? I’ve never seen that before unless the car is overheating. Every Integra I’ve owned has come up to slightly under halfway and never moved past that unless it was having overheating issues. If your gauge is halfway or past halfway then I suspect there’s a problem. Either it’s running hotter than it’s supposed to, the gauge is faulty, or the ECT Sending Unit is reading/transmitting incorrectly.

Also, in regard to the fans… a faulty fan switch is fairly uncommon. What is quite common is a bad relay. It’s a pretty simple system to check though with basic electrical tools.

Maybe he meant a hair under the middle.

That’s what I was hoping.

Mine is a hair over the middle when rad fan turns on, have also seen a few other Honda/Acura that are a “hair” over before fan turns on.

Keep in mind, by hair, I mean just part of the needle is over.

Also keep in mind, just like ECT switches are not all exactly the same, neither is the ECT sending unit or the gauge itself. 94

Hey sorry guys… I haven’t been on here for a bit. Yeah a buddy of mine had it at his shop and he figured it out. I guess one wire was messed up or something. It all works and I actually got my car back. It’s not fully tuned but just about. The guy was making me mad cause he had my car forever. He said it was just about done he just need a little more time to really fine tune it and also a dyno. We street tuned it, but shit he had the car for over 2 weeks and he wasn’t tuning it every day. Any ways I love it now.
