I need some help setting my engine timing. I don’t have any way of holding the crankshaft pulley in place to remove the bolt. Where is piston #1 when the mark on the oil pump is aligned with the mark on the crankshaft sprocket? Maybe I could set it like that…? Could you see the crankshaft sprocket mark without taking off the pulley, with the lower cover removed? Thanx
Buy a repair manual. If you do not set your camshaft timing correctly you run the risk of doing some serious damage to your motor.
When the crankshaft is at Top Dead Center #1 and #4 piston are at it’s top most position with 2 and 3 and their lowest. With the crank pulley on, you cannot see the crank sprocket or marks on the oil pump.
