engine won't start

I have a 1990 GS with 92 engine swap. I did my swap in Dec, but I did not change my t-belt or water pump. Recently coolent was leaking from by the crank pulley. So I decided to replace the water pump and t-belt. So I replaced them this weekend. I also replaced my spark plug wires(plugs were replaced when I did the swap). I have only driven the car 3,000 miles since the swap.

Now my engine won’t start. It rotates but it just won’t start. I check the wires and made sure that they were in far enough. The wires are new I got them from the dealer. I am not sure why it won’t start. Can someone help me out?

Its the t-belt

did you align the timing belt correctly?

i recently did a timing belt on my gf’s old car (85 buick skyhawk) somehow there was enough slack in the belt for it to jump a tooth when it was first turned over (cause we know it was aligned when we put it back on). The belt was only off by one tooth, but that was enough to keep it from starting.

so, as long as you’re getting fuel and spark i’d check the timing belt.

I took everything apart and checked to make sure everything was lined up properly, and the crank was off by a little. So I fixed it and the car started and Ideled at about 50 RPMS. Then I hit the gas pedel and then the car shut off. So I cranked it over and over again and got the same thing.

Then, I tried something else. I just let it run for about 20mins and with the crazy idel. Then I pressed the gas and I got the same thing it shut off on me. Then I waited about 6 hours and tried to crank it again. It cranked and ideled at 50 RPMS again. So I just turned it off.

I don’t know what made me check, but I checked to see if, It was throwing a code at me, and it was. It is doing 5 short beeps. I believe that code is the MAP sensor code, but I don’t know how to fix it. Can anyone help me??

Help!

if YOU say it’s the map sensor then check to see if you’re getting vacuum going to it. if you dont, there’s your problem. if you do, then the check the electrical connections on the map sensor. if they’re all good then it’s probably a bad map sensor. unless the timing belt is still off a teeth or if you’re not getting spark or fuel. check all those things.:stuck_out_tongue:
