Error code 43, fuel supply system

help!!.. it took me 5 minutes cranking the starter to get my teg started… and it runs like crap… idles bad… and the ecu is throwing error code 43… Fuel Supply System… I just redid the timing belt, water pump, major tune up… on the car… recently purchased… I replaced the fuel filter 10 miles ago… is it possible to install a fuel filter wrong?.. or what could be causing this problem… the teg took forever to start like it wasn’t even getting fuel… and runs terribly…

test your injectors, hook a fuel pressure gauge to see the psi. When was the last time you replaced your o2 sensor?

the psi with the vacuum hose attached should be 28 to 35 psi (for 1991 integras with the B18A1 or just plain B18A
The psi with the vacuum hose unattached should be 37 to 45 psi (again also for the 1991 integras)

you also wanna test your fuel pump. ummm look at witch way you put the filter on. the hoses going to it are supposed to fit between the hooks on top of the filter.

^ Good write up. Check to see if you get one fast blink before your Code 43 also, because that will be an indicator of an oxygen sensor. Just had to change mine, my car was running like complete shit too.

hm… how and where does one hookup a fuel gauge for testing purposes… and what vacuum line?>… sorry if I sound like an idiot… and how would I test the fuel pump… also… isn’t there like a fuel relay or something that messes up when it’s hot outside?.. my other teg would not start for a while when it was really hot…

oh yea the mfr…there known to act up during hot weather.

on the fpr, theres a vacuum line that runs from it to the manifold. you can’t miss it. it’s like right there. to check the fuel pressure, hook the pressure gauge to the filter where the service bolt is and compare the readings i gave you in my 1st post.
to test the fuel pump. 1st you wanna hear a whirring noise when turn the key to on before starting it up.

  1. hook up the pressure gauge to the service port on the filter (the port with the service bolt and get rid of the pressure 1st)

2 turn the igniton switch on (engine not running) and with the a/c off. The fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds and the pressure should register on the gauge and hold steady.

  1. start the engine up and let it idle at normal temp. Compare the psi to what i gave you in my 1st post.

  2. now disconnect the vacuum hose from the fpr, the pressure should increase right away to what i gave you in my 1st post. if there correct, then the system is operating correctly.

  3. if the pressure did not increase when the vacuum hose was disconnected, apply 12 to 14 inchs of vacuum via hand held vacuum pump (local auto parts store should have them< aut zone loans them out i beleave). If the pressure drops, fix the vacuum source to the fpr. If the pressure does not drop replace the fpr.

6 if the fuel pressure is not within specs. check the follwing
a) if the pressure is higher then what i gave you, check for vacuum to the fpr. vacuum must fluctuate with the increase or decrease in the engine rpms if vacuum is there meaning present, check for pinched or clogged fuel return hose or pipe if the fuel return hose is ok, replace the fpr.
b) i was gonna say replace the fuel filter to rule it out for clogging. but you only have 10miles on it so it’s been ruled out. but if the pressure is still low, start the motor up and if possible, slowly pinch the reutrn hose shut. if the pressure rises to or the "vacuum hose disconnected: fuel psi liste that i gave you, replace the fpr. (don’t let the pressuer go over 60 psi).
c) if the pressure is still low with the fuel return restricted, an (injector or injectors mybe leaking) or the fual pump may be faulty.

p.s. but when was the last time you replace your o2 sensor? and when you check the ecu for codes, did it blink once then paused then blink for code 43?

I think the O2 sensor is new… part of a regular tune up… can I just get a pressure gauge with a fitting at any auto parts store?..

kk. o2 sensor is ruled out then if you say its new. about the gauge, yes.

I’m getting this error now on another car, the motor and everything only have 80,000 miles! WTF

Bud i feel bad for you. What year of a teg is it that your getting a code from?

bro. check your tps on the back of ur IM there should be a little clip… its prolly unplugged… this JUST happened to me.

Just got these exact symptoms two days ago, and it was a bad fuel pump.
