Excessive Exhaust Noise MD $60 TICKET...Outrageous.

Cali has them weird CARB laws… My bro once told me he has gotten pulled over by a state trooper, claiming his stock “Nismo” Exhaust on his 350Z wasn’t stock… SMH. In my situation, I wish I didn’t have the Hyper Medallion, but it came with the car. I will be changing my whole exhaust soon, because it’s about to fall out from hitting so many bumps in DC. I would have preferred a repair order than a ticket. I work in the auto field, so it’s not an issue to get it written off. My MD Cert Inspector told me there’s nothing illegal about my exhaust, it has no leaks, rusts/holes, or deleted cat. I shoved a $10 4" silencer to get them off my back. I agree that it’s nothing more than another way to generate revenue… As far as wanting to be a ricer, I could care less what you think about me. It’s my daily.

My Hyper Medallion does not attract attention at all. I also put the HKS tips on it though to make it look stock though.

yeah but why would you cut and chop a perfectly good muffler thats becoming rarer by the day. I have one to and plan on painting it with high temp flat black spray paint and just leave the polished tip.

Because I hated the big tip, plain and simple.

I dont see how you people dont revolt against those stupid laws in Cali.
It is unfair when people with Harley’s get away with making stupid ammounts of noise all just because of the “coolness” of owning one.

This is a good article about asserting your rights when it comes to police encounters.
show-off…consider yourself lucky. in California, you would of gotten a fixing ticket($10-$15). therefore…you would have to get a state ref.(an annoying ass smog check-$35-$45). also, the hassle of putting everything back to stock(time=money) in order to pass the state ref. then after passing the state ref., having to go back to another police officer and getting the ticket signed-off stating that you corrected the modification(s). i didn’t i mention, this is considered getting off easy!!! some people gets their car towed/impounded($200-$300+). in some cases, vehicle can’t leave impound lot unless modified part is removed(they charge you for this too at the tow yard, price $50-$400+). pretty much a “mechanic” pulls off all the illegal items and throws it in your back trunk. now at this point, most likely you can’t drive your car home anymore because u’re either missing an intake/header/exhaust…so you would have to get your car towed home, ($80-$150). oh yeah, at the end of it all, you would STILL have to get it state ref.(proceed back to the top of my reply), that’s another $45-$70 added to the bill.

adding all that up:

getting off easy: $45-$70

getting jacked: $375-$920+

don’t think im just throwing these numbers out there…i speak from experience.
Not necessarily. If the exhaust is under the legal decibel limit, they will pass it. I passed with my Greddy Ti-C on my EM1
