Well, even without getting mandrel bent piping, there ARE alternatives to crinkle-bending. Not sure what the method is, but there’s one shop in Winnipeg that bends the pipe without putting any crinkles in it. However, it’s not mandrel bent because the diameter of the pipe where it’s bent, is slightly smaller than the straight sections. The advantage over crinkle-bent pipe is that it’s still got smooth edges for better flow.
i bought a n1 style mufler from ebay u know the cheap one’s anyways i got the whole cat back pipe bent from meineki they did a good job but i had to look around for prices since its a franchize busniess all prices are different i found a meiniki shop in woodbridge va that did it for $100
crush bends can be made - the crinkles. mine is set up this way. a really good bender/welder will take his time and do it to where you won’t suffer from them. most aftermarket exhausts are 60mm or 2 3/8". if he’s good he can crush the 2.5" to be 2 3/8" at the bends. mine was done over the course of 4 hours, he test fit every single piece a dozen times, and measured each bend ahead of time to make sure they were all no smaller than 60mm in diameter. pics are floating on here somewheres. so really i have a 2.5" cat, and 2.5" piping with 2 3/8" bends and a stock resonator with the bottlenecks removed, to a comptech muffler and a tsx exhaust tip. :salute:
that minekie is now under new owners, they told me 150, got there they did the work, took like 5 hours, brought it out and told me 270$ i was so tired and pissed, i just paid it. drove home with this thing rattling, buzzing, muffler almost dragging the ground. next day, got under it and found out it was a total hack job, i took it to another minekie and they were surprised at the poor quality, they redid the whole thing, no charge, only took em 2 hours, and now it right. still too much $, but at least its done right now.
If you still have the signed copy of the original estimate, you can take them to small claims court and sue for the difference. Or if you paid by credit card, dispute the charges with your CC company telling them the amount of the original estimate. They will do all the work for you to recover their money.
That sucks bro, thats not the type of buisness they should be giving.:tsk: I would definetly take this to a corpret level. I bet they can give you the difference maybe at least help you save big on future work
yea, see thats the problem, they tell you one thing on the phone, you get there its a different story, they dont give anything in writing, next thing i know iits time to pay the bill. my fault i guess though, should have gotten a written estimate. so 270 for the pipe, bending and labor, and i paid like 70 for the obx twin loop, 40 for the magnaflow high flow cat, headache… for all that i could have gotten a full stainless mandrel bent cat back off ebay. cant win em all.
