Exhaust Ideas/Opinions

So after a lot of motor work and a lot of getting things to flow correctly i think its time i make my way down to finding an exhaust that will actually do its job and not sound like a nest of bee’s in a megaphone when im driving around,

so far ive gotten some ideas on the original greddy/trust sp exhaust, the greddy sp2, apex n1, and an rs-r, i have only really herd the rs-r exhaust from a buddy of mine that has it on his da, as far as finding one and paying the price for it i think its an un touchable option for me at this moment

so mainly im trying to find something thats going to have a deep smooth sound without the raspiness or ricer-ness to it that will flow good, i dont know if motor matters but it will be bolted up to a minor headwork and tuned JDM ITR motor with a JG edlebrock header

Thanks for your opinions/help sorting this out

car in question:

well, of those options, here’s how I rate them:

RSR - 9/10 - Great sound, VERY elegant tone and not raspy at all (that is if you go with the original Ex-Mag. The RSR GT2 is LOUD and horribly raspy)
GReddy SP2 9/10 - I have this one personally, on my car. Tone is perfect. A LITTLE louder than the RS*R, but not raspy at all. GREAT overall product. Fitment is great, too.
Apex’i N1 - 4/10 - I don’t think they make a full system for our cars, and even if they did, I wouldn’t get it personally. It is loud and raspy. Not even REMOTELY in the same league as the others mentioned. It is also a “canister style” exhaust, so it will get a lot of attention from looks alone, by police.

If I were you, and were interested in a canister system (only reason I suggest this is because you mentioned the N1), I would go with the HKS Hiper Exhaust. It’s a canister setup, but WOW does it sound nice. Ask members 8URV8 or KnOwLeDgE420 (he no longer has his DA, but will vouch for the nice sound of the HKS)

It looks and sounds great. The tone isn’t TOO much different than the GReddy or RS*R. Kind of like a nice mix between the two. Definitely the louder of the group, but its still NOT loud at all. Very subtle. I’ve heard 8URV8’s in person last year. Sounds great.

My vote, though, goes to the GReddy SP2.

Bad news is, all but the HKS have been discontinued, so IF you can find one, they’ll be used, and the condition will never be as nice as it would be if it were fresh out of the box. They are also getting harder and harder to find.

Best of luck, friend. We also have several threads on this site focused on exhaust setups, so please search around and read what others have had to say about their setups.
