exhaust question...is this a good idea?

ok… i just got some money for graduation and wanted to put it into my car. right now i have a stock '92 LS. i already ordered a cold air intake for it about 5 mins ago. ok…so now i’ve got a little bit over $100 left over and i was looking on a website and saw mufflers for about that much. i would really like a whole exhaust setup but dont have the money right now. will i notice any gain by just getting a different muffler or will it just be louder? is it worth getting just that part? any suggestions on which ones are good or sound good…thanks

Some people install “axle back” “systems” that are nothing more then a muffler, and tail pipe section. Don’t expect any true gains from this other than what would be recovered from a clogged stock system.

A cat back system replaces the piping from the catalytic coverter to produce some gains.

A custom cat back system can be made for about $100

Don’t just buy that because you don’t have enough to get what you really want. A custom setup (possibly using the muffler you saw) is a great way to get an exhaust if you order quality piping/bends etc.

ok thank you… i think im just going to get a short shifter and a strut bar and then start saving money over the summer. let me know if you have any suggestions for some cheap performance parts.

here’s my exhaust idea, let me know if I’m crazy. I don’t know if this will acutally cut costs, but that’s not exactly what I’m going for. I want my exhaust to come out of the passenger side. I want to find a aftermarket pipe designed for my integra that is just the section from the cat to the axle. then I’ll get a universal muffler and bend a pipe to connect it all. Also, I heard that '94 integra exhaust systems are similar to ours and only need minor customisations to fit our cars. Anyone know if this is true and what customisations those are?

customisations

That is the coolest word. I’m going to use it from now on. Seriously.

You would probably have to cut some of your bumper to fit the tip. Just get one that angles out, they look cool anyway.
