Exhaust question

I have 91 rs bone stock, now I want to make the car a bit more aggressive sounding, however paying a lot of cash for a high performance exhaust is out of the question for now, so i was thinking a straight pipe just from the cat back, pretty much a muffler delete. Now would i lose power or anything negative from this? Also has anyone done this and have pics or suggestions on exhaust tip?

if you do this, dont. your car will become loud and obnoxious and everyone will hate you for driving your car. its mods like these that bring all the negative comments to honda owners. my suggestion is to leave the stock exhaust, save your money and purchase something of quality to achieve the sound you desire. you will regret a straight pipe if you follow through with this

I agree with Da _all_day statement, just save up your money and get something worth it, like the tanabe tour medallion exhaust or something along those line.

Yup, I agree with those fellas. If you feel like messing around you can pull the axle back off and run it like that. With a the stock cat and resonator it’s still actually pretty quiet, quieter than most “fart cans”. But overall its best to save up for a quality system from the likes of Greddy, Tanabe, Thermal…etc

Thats more or less what im doing Colin, yeah it’s probably not the best idea to do right now but eventually i will have something more quality like, but as of now this is what i want to do just to not have it super quiet. Once my headers come in the car is going to be loud regardless. Plus im still using my stock cat and resaonator, it wont sound like a fart can hopefully.

so you already had your mind made up about making this terrible decision it seems like…

dude when i bought my car, the guy cut everything off after the cat. at first i was like dude that thing sounds sick but soon i began to hate it. the droning on 30 minute trips…i know your doing a different setup but depending on how it sounds you may attract negative attention. i already got pulled over before because of this very reason. i got a dc sports exhaust but it’s not the fart can type. it’s like oe style and it sounds so good(imo). i also got a magnaflow catalytic converter and the combination of the two seems like it makes acceleration feel smoother than what i was used to. but it’s your choice boss

Well i mean I had asked if anyone has done this, not really what people thought, people forget that what people do to their car is their decision, i respect ur opinion but Im not just going to put a straight exhaust pipe with nothing in it, the shop asked me if i would like to put resonators and they told me for the setup it would be better to have 2 and keep my stock cat so that its a bit louder but not some fart can on grandmas civic.

just get a bolt on setup from ebay/free shipping

i guess you missed this part… you think an ebay exhaust doesnt sound like a fart can?

My old db1 had a high flow cat and straight pipe all the way to a vibrant muffler. But that was strictly a weekend car. It was loud but not raspy. To each there own.

Yeah im very skeptical when it comes to buying mechanical parts off ebay. I know some people live by ebay and their parts but I just think its a big risk.

it comes with a silencer. you can also put a resonator

If you want are NOT on a forced induction setup…your options for a good sounding exhaust are limited. You can go with tried-and-true (Greddy SP2, RSR ExMag), however those are 2.34" piping if I recall correctly.

I’m a huge fan of custom, mandrel bent exhaust.

My DA is currently internally stock, naturally aspirated. We are getting a turbo setup together, but my exhaust needed addressed (holes in it and completely falling apart). I went with a 3" mandrel bent, going through a 3" Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator, to a 3" Dynomax Super Turbo muffler (single exit), which then has piping out the exhaust location to a dual tip.

Every single person I told that to said “It’s going to sound like crap, super raspy, and extremely loud.” It is actually only one of those…loud.

Get a good resonator, to a good muffler. I went with the “best” resonator, to an extremely quiet muffler. It is loud when you get on it, but far from that when you are just cruising or under 4k RPM.

Don’t go cheap on exhaust, or it sounds like crap.

Just save up and buy a quality system like HKS or Tanabe.
