I get an exhaust rattle when I blip the gas, or when im past 2.5k rpm’s. I just had my exhaust done yesterday to a custom 2.5" piping. I read about the cat heat shield rattling, but i hear this coming out the exhaust. Could it be that? or could it be that my exhaust can is bad.
pic:
i had the same rattle with my old exhaust… it ended up being the metal on the inside starting peeling off and sitting in the tip so it would rattle around like metal shards in a tin car. i was able to use a pair of needle nose to pull them out. the rattle went away…
check and see if there are any metal pieces floating around in the canister…
I dont see any, Maybe there is some between the outside can and the holey section? If any were in there they should of fell out when it was removed
maybe…
record a video of the sound so we have a better idea of what kind of rattle it is…
finger point I gots you
it’s normal when you get a bigger diameter exhaust and headers.
it’s the flames and gases that come out of your engine flowing further back in the system since it opened up.
In response of da6xsi06, I never knew why custom exhausts sound “rattly”. OP-My exhaust pipe looks actually like yours minus the brand name and it does rattle when I hit the gas but goes away at normal speeds. You tube something like, “Exhaust sounds”. I bet you’ll hear the same rattling on some custom exhaust tips. Back in my illegal racing days, I would hear those rattling sounds from all types of cars except american cars.
The term “rice” comes to mind with them japanese cars. haha.
So does this mean if I get a smaller tip’d muffler, then the loudness and raspiness with go away?
If you want quiet. You need to buy stock. I have a silencer that you install inside of the muffler so I have some sound but not too loud. The silencer is bolted on. Not sure if your muffler has a bolt hole to install the silencer.
Getting a “smaller” tip isn’t necessarily the answer… All exhaust systems will sound a bit different because they’re designed differently.
If you’re looking for a certain sound, as mentioned, look on YouTube for DA exhaust clips… Apexi/WorldSport2/RS*R/Sebring are all popular exhaust systems in the G2 scene because they (mostly) have a good tone… going with a cheaper, eBay brand is going to result in a less desirable and durable exhaust system.
Saying that it is ‘normal’ for an aftermarket exhaust to rattle or rasp is nonsense… it’s all in the design, not the fact that it’s aftermarket or bigger than stock.
