Exhaust set up question

I just picked up an exhaust from the junk yard from a wrecked db1 and I’m not sure whether or not I should throw my cat converter back on with this exhaust. I currently have headers a test pipe and stock piping with a pipe welded in place of the stock muffler canister which is raspy as a mofo. The exhaust I picked up is either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" and comes with the muffler canister. My question is would it still be raspy if I leave my test pipe on with the new exhaust even though it has a muffler? Also need help identifying the exhaust system I picked up. It is a 4 piece exhaust where the muffler tip is removable. I’m really convinced it’s a hks sport catback but it has no logo anywhere. IT came with the full piping and clean looking cat for only $50, advise would be great thanks

No way you’ll know how it sounds till you install it. Every muffler is different. Cat and resonators play a role in making the exhaust quite as well, but really it’s the whole package: header, cat, resonator(s), muffler. I vote for keeping the cat. It’s illegal to run w/o one, it’s better for the environment if you use one, and you won’t really be killing much power unless you have a crazy built motor. Plus, if you’re upgrading parts you should consider a high quality high flow cat.

Post some pics of the exhaust and someone should help identify it. HKS sport is the only one I can think of w/ a tip that bolts on/off. But it’s less than 2.25", so either your estimation of diameter is pretty far off or the piping has been replaced, or it’s not an HKS sport…

Thanks forthe reply Colin. I think the piping diameter is somewhere between 2" to 2.25" but that’s just eye balling it. Also the piping is original with the muffler. I’ll try to get pics soon but I’m currently at work. Is there a logo that’s supposed to be on there? It’s also the dual tipped one.

Oh and was it you that I rode up with to oceanside? I had the blue Sedan at the time and you had the motorcycle, we met up with darkdb1 I believe. If it wasn’t you then sorry.

I don’t remember if the HKS has any markings on it anywhere, I’ve never inspected one up close. And no, that wasn’t me you rode with.
