Hey guys I just went and checked out an entire exhaust system a guy is selling locally and was concerned about legalities.
here it is.
DC Sport 4-2-1 headers I know DC makes the only CA legal headers BUT… these did not have a CARB tag on them. Pipe diameter was 2.25" so asdie from not actually having the tag on them they match all other DC ceramic headers I have seen.
Second part was the full exhaust system with a Dynomax muffler. this part was all 2.75" diameter with either a 3.5 or 4" tip at the back. This all came off a CA owned DA that was a track car. for the price I almost jumped on it, but what held me up is that A) I’d have to get it all welded back together & B) if it isn’t smog legal I do not want to have to cut it all off in another year and a half to get through smog.
I could have walked out with the entire system tonight for under 200 bucks. and gotten a DC rear strut brace for just a little extra, and OEM front and rear lip kits…
COuld any CA guys possibly provide some input. if it checks out ima go spring for it… if not I’ll pass and go get my body work done instead.
CARB E.O # plate needs to be on the header along with the O2 sensor in the proper location for that year to pass visual smog check. If there is no Cat in the exhaust system, it will not pass visual and probably sniffer as well.
the exhaust system looked like it was the parts that ran behind the Cat, and would be needed to be welded up to the rear of it, but the CARB tag not being there on the headers is what flags my concern. I’ll put in a call to DC tho their website says that all the street 4-2-1 ceramics are CARB exempt or pending.
Thanks Spikey!
The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards just getting the body work started. got all my mechanical stuff in order so better judgement says just get the holes from the skirts patched up before rainy season hits.
After further investigation which BTW is applicable to 90-91 non vtec (LS, RS, GS) only…
DC SPorts Header model number ACH-6003 IS CARB exempt and new will come with a sticker to affix to the car itself. When purchasing a used header that is the correct model number for the year and model of car, you can contact DC Sports and submit photos showing that you have the correct header on the correct model\year car. Upon providing photographic proof, and submission of some paperwork DC can then apply for and send you a new CARB EO# sticker.
You CANNOT have a GS-R header on say a GS/RS/LS ALL DC headers are vehicle specific and cannot be mix matched. Also for the 2 peice headers you must have the correct part # on both sections.
now to call this dude and see what part number is stamped on that header.
why do everyone say headers our cars has one not two…
the pacesetter header are carb legal and cheaper then dc.

if you want to debate symantics… you would say “Our cars HAVE” not has… next time at least respond something useful or don’t respond man… Pacesetter wasn’t the question. and they weren’t cheaper than the 160 I paid fr a DC header and Rear strut brace.
Geez.
you said dc is the only CA legal header… I was correcting you by saying pacesetter is also ca legal…
the header with out the tag makes me think its fake… the tag is welded on there who would waste they time cutting it off…
