I am looking for an exhaust system for my 91 ls (stock b18a1 with dc headers). I like the sound of a hks hi power (silent exhaust). I want to get the performance but I dont want anything loud and obnoxious for 2 reasons:
I drive alot to and from work. Roughly 100 miles round trip per day.
I am too old to be running around with a loud exhaust like some of the younger enthusiast like to have. I not saying that there is anything wrong with that, I am just saying I prefer to have something quieter. Something along the lines of a Infiniti G35 exhaust or something close to it.
My questions are:
Does anyone here have the hks hi power with resignator that helps tone it down? I found this clip of a ITR with hks hi power silent on Youtube. Sounds good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCdoiBCT1RU
i had an rs-r exmag. i was running it with a test pipe, and it had a wonderful sound, not loud at all and very smooth sounding. just yesterday, i sold it to a friend, also with a 92 gsr. if someone was running a resonator in place of the test pipe, then it would even have a more subtle sound. i like to put my exhausts together myself, using 2.5 mandrel bent tubing . i buy my resonators and choose my muffler and get to work.
I did like the Infiniti G35 muffler idea last year I got a 350z muffler it was to big and heavy i paid 20 bucks for it and i cut the tips off and I got a 94 camaro muffler I was going to put the tips on there never did.
I want to get a 08 and up sti wagon muffler or a 2011 wrx wagon muffler
I have a 2011 wrx and the muffler looks like it mite fit… heres a pic of what it looks like…
here is a video I removed the resonator and here how it sounds
got a Greddy SP1/Trust axleback on my car sounds really nice, deep tone quiet. Just exhaust in the back and stock resonator/midpipe. Had it custom welded just to stock pipe
Welding an axleback/muffler to the stock midpipe is just for sound and adds no performance properties at all.
OP, if your DC Header has a bigger outlet than stock (~2") then you should definitely look into upgrading the size of your piping from the cat, all the way back.
If you get a reputable system, not only will it sound good, you’ll actually make your motor breathe better… resulting in more power.
