Hey guys, my name’s Derek. Been contributing to threads here for about a year now, but have never made a thread specifically for my DA. I have one at CI and figured there’s probably alot of overlap between the two forums, but there also seems to be a little overabundance of DC2 love on that forum, so here goes anyways. lol Since my car has already had alot of stuff done to it over the years, I just want to give a brief history and set the thread up for stuff I’m currently doing to it
So I’ve owned my DA since 1998. A 1993 GS from New Hampshire that my sister originally purchased while at college out there with stock everything including a horrid red and grey pinstripe. At 5 years old, it already had some nice dings in it, but was otherwise in pretty good condition.
I did have nice plans for it, so the first thing I did when I got it was dismantle the entire interior, remove it and take a waterhose and scrub brush to everything. My interior has always been immaculate because of that. In the following 7 years, however, it started to take some beatings. It experienced a pole hit to the driver side fender while backing up and turning, a buddy backing up into the driver door while parked, my dad using it as a work truck, clear coat loss and to top it off, during a stretch of unemployment and college fees, my mind lapsed on oil maintenance and I locked up my engine when it got too low.
Here’s a crappy picture of my DA as it stood about 7 years ago, dead engine and beat up to hell.
Only one I have for obvious reasons. lol
At that point I decided to get this beezy off the ground. First thing, grabbed a B18B and replaced my poor abused 18A.
No pics of it happening, but it is just a stock setup, has run nicely and reliably and this is how it stands.
Next I had an exhaust installed.
A Flowmaster with custom welded 2.5 inch tubing to the stock cat. Not a dedicated custom set I know, but it does sound nice and really deep. No farting here. lmao
Next was my audio setup. I had a unique idea for it for quite a while and wanted to make it happen.
Front the end first. Started by building a mini PC. Parts have been changed and upgraded throughout the years, but as it stands it has a 2.4GHz Intel Duo Core CPU, 4 Gigs of RAM, a 200 GB SSD hard drive, windows XP driving it and Centrafuse car audio software for the front end. Mounted on the metal plate under the glove box with a custom power supply under my passenger seat that turns the system on on off through my car alarm.
Next I needed a touchscreen control interface. Gutted my radio and this touchscreen panel, which is readable in direct sunlight and put the two together.
Attached to all that it is a 7 ports USB hub under the driver’s seat with a 1.5TB portable hard drive, a Creative XFi surround sound card, a GPS USB dongle, a Bluetooth receptor, a wireless mouse, a 4G mobile broadband card, an array microphone and a programmable Volume control.
Nice! Pretty sweet mini PC build. I think someone on here also had a similar set up.
Damnit I keep posting before updates haha. Damn man that sucks. You gonna put a new support on? Might just have to straighten it out with a hammer as best you can.
Looks good man. Got a question though , was curious how those batteries are working out for ya? I bought a HC800 and it sat while i did my build and now it may be bad but the company is offering me a huge discount if i buy another. Was gonna buy a HC2400 and maybe use the 800 also if it decides to take a charge.

Thanks for the kind words! As for the bumper, I’ve already collected this stuff.
Stanley turns with ambers taken out, new corner supports, complete used 93 Bumper set, used headlight bracket and a couple lips.
Next pay check I’m going to give all this stuff to my body guy to realign everything. The frame is not totaled, but it is tweaked more than it shows. Alright though. . This is the first step to getting her tip top and alot of these parts are just temps for the realigning.
We’ll see. And thanks. It didn’t get turned over to me like that. Freaking body guys are the worst. Turned out for the best though. Took me about a month to clean it up. Every square inch by hand. And I mean every square inch…
Honestly, they’re pretty bad ass, but I’ve had them going on 5 years now and I still have questions about them. Alot of that is my fault though and I’m currently trying to get a head on the details about them.
Here’s my history with those batteries. I had that 1800 installed with my system about 4.5 years ago. Was one the stereo shop had on hand. Was in there solo for about 2 months, but is just wasn’t cutting it and couldn’t from day one. I mean if I tried to turn the system up at all, my amp would cut out and go into protect mode because the voltage would drop so much. Which was odd because the stereo place had assured me that battery was way more than enough to support my system. I thought the amp was bad and replaced it because of what they told me. After the new amp did the same thing, this is where I made the mistake of not getting down and figuring out what was really going on and just chained more batteries to the system. Like how it currently looks. Almost 190 Ahrs between all of them. lol Fixed the damn problem for sure, but not completely. If my system is really cranking, there has never been anymore cutting out, but the lights still dimmed a bit. Hmm… Took the ride camping a few times. Batteries last for two hours really freaking loud with no engine running. Umm-hum Nice. Here’s the thing though. Still no cutting amp out, but that run time has gotten shorter and shorter so where as at the moment, I don’t get more than half an hour out of that array at normal volumes. My system power supplies are smart and shut the system down when they detect I think 11 volts. Worse, if I leave my keys in the start position for another 30 min, I need a freaking jump to start it. lol That shouldn’t be happening ever with these batteries. lol
Question: Are these batteries shit? I don’t think so, but I honestly couldn’t tell you conclusively because I’ve just with in the last few weeks have gotten ahold of alot of technical data and testing equipment to figure that out and really take care of them.
For starters, these are sealed dry deep cycle batteries. Drain these suckers down, it doesn’t matter. Just bath them in some current overnight and they’re as good as new. Bad ass. But I’ve just recently found out the outboard charger I’ve been using is potentially ruining them by giving them too high a voltage when charging.
Second reason I cannot give you a solid answer. I got tech specs and the procedure on all these batteries to test their conditions from said dude too. Bought one of these carbon pile testers to do it the most accurate way.
In my array I have one HC1800 and three HC800s. Just finished their tests last night. One of those 800s passed with flying colors. Two of them were borderline, but passed and that 1800. Complete horseshit. It probably always was, but I don’t know because I never tested it way back when. The bad thing about that is the tech guy at Kinetik told me that if your have a shit battery in your array, it starts to drill the other ones too over time. Possibly four years of those three little ones holding up the 1800.
So, yeah. I got two 800’s and a fresh 1800 on their way to me from Amazon. They will be speced before they even enter my vehicle and taken care of exactly and I’ll go from there. A year from now, I’ll know exactly what’s up with these things. If you keep these I’d suggest getting ahold of that charger at the very least.
About two years I’d say. Fit was good for the most part. Left was perfect. Right side was a little off as far as bolts lining up and took a little manipulation. Still a tight fit though. Leaks have been nonexistent, but not by build or chance. They didn’t come with any seals and the stock ones that I had on before were pretty stiff and conformed exactly to the old lights. I had been having water issues with them too. I tried just switching the seals and it was like Niagara Falls. lol Got some of this stuff which has like a 1/4 inch extra height on it than even the OEM seal has.
Laid it all along the where the normal seal sits, making sure the only break was in middle of the light on the bottom. Secured that beezy on and watched all that foam squish against the body. Those things have never and cannot leak. lol
Nice! Post it up in your thread if you do. I’d like to see them on another DA. I’ve seen your thread and open it up when you update it. The fitment on mine were a little suspect like I said and to be expected with aftermarket light, but not unworkable. They’re really nice once you get them on.
Lol You mean you can tell they’re not '91s?
Ebay, but I really dig’um. They’re like someone took '90-'91s and crystallized the cloudiness out of them.
lol i can tell they arent stock, but it still has the stock look and the SUPER fresh look. i want some for my DB1 really bad, especially since mine have hairline/age cracks in them and have moisture that builds up in it. i’m going to have to keep my eyes open and see if ebay ever has a set pop up for the sedans
