Ok, I did a compression test on my GSR today and much to my worst fear, my 4th cylinder has 0 compression:rant: . The 1st and 2nd were at 180 but the 3rd was at around 150. My friend said that the third cylinder probably had a tight valve and the 4th one either had a burnt one or a closed one. My friend is pretty knowledgable about cars so I think that may be it. Does that sound like the problem to anyone else? Also if it does what kind of cash am I looking to throw down into this?
Thanks for any help.
Come on guys I know I’m kind of being impatient but I can’t stand to not know what I can do about my teggy. It’s just sitting at my friends house I’m so worried about it:sad: :uhoh:
you should do a leakdown test also to pinpoint the prob.
A leakdown test would help you pinpoint where your losing the compression, but since you are getting 0 you are going to have to pull the head off anyway to check things out. Whatever it is will require some serious work.

eek. well if its just a valve problem, labor can be from 300-500. you can find a head for around 200. or you can just get all new valves. dont forget the gaskets. thats another 120-200. i took the plunge and actually swapped it out myself. requires lots of tools. sorry to hear it, good luck.
Thats if its a valve problem… It could also be that there is a big hole in one of the pistons. I have seen that a few times…
Either way, your going to have to take it apart to do a visual inspection.
Maybe it is time for some performance upgrades…

0 comp is never an easy fix sorry bud…
Are you sure it was zero? I would check that cylinder again. Was the engine warm? Did you have the throttle all the way open? Did you do a wet test (adding a capful of oil to the cylinder). Typically 0 compression means cracked ring lands with broken rings, or holes in the piston, or it could be bent valves. Before you go ripping stuff apart, I would have a leakdown test done. This will tell you exactly what the problem is. Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck.
If its the valves would it be a better idea to just get a new head? If so would I loose power putting a B16a head on it? I’m pretty sure they are the same head PR3 I think? But I’ve also heard that the B16a head is the worst of the vtec heads as far as air flow.
