So my car was vibrating horribly and pulling to the left. Fearing the worst, I pulled off my drivers side tire, and lo and behold, I came across this.
What the hell causes this? And no, I haven’t hit a thing!

If theyr newly purchased tires, I would call them deffective and ask to get replacements.
If they’re older tires that you’ve had installed for at least the past few months or more, then you’ve had to have ran something over or hit something…
Even if it was a deffective tire, that is a very strange pattern to occur in a tire without physically hitting something…
Etiher way, most definitely get it replaced and don’t drive on it.
I have already replaced it. These are my summer tires, took them off last october (Damn Canadian winters) and just put them back on two days ago. They were fine when I put them on. Then, yesterday, BAM, destroyed tire.
Ick… did the tire shop give any reasoning as to what caused it?
Speaking of, its about time to get summer tires on the daily… Meh.
No, they couldn’t figure it out. Said he had never seen anything like it before. Still tons of tread on the tires. Boo to this… $400 yesterday on rotors, pads and a caliper, and $150 today for a tire
cheap nexen tire. looks like the whole sidewall is gna explode lol.
Wow, that looks very strange indeed.
that’s weird. it’s not the usual bubble, but a dent instead.
I had this happen on one of my Nitto tires. I remember it being a really hot day so the only thing I can think of is that perhaps that tire was over-inflated. I am usually careful with how much air is in my tires though, so I’m not really certain.
They are Lexani, not nexen. And they were sitting at 30 PSI. Thats why i’m confused!
Ugh just went outside for a smoke break, and my new tire is flat, and while i was pumping it up, a FedEX truck backed into my best friends car and destroyed his front end.
What’s the production date of the tire? There was a special on the abc nightly news about tire shops selling new tires that have been sitting around for years and the tires were falling apart and causing accidents. They were saying that even though the tire looks new and there are no visible signs of premature failure they are dangerous because of their age.
Hmm I don’t know. I will have to check that out. They were brand new last April, or at least, put on last April, and have been in storage since October.
Definitely check the production date on the newly installed tire you bought… Then proceed to take it back and throw it through the front window Discount Tire-style!
Haha. My buddy own the shop that put it on, I don’t know who they bought it from. Im thinking bad valve.
dam did u not seee the pothole u hit???
Wasn’t a pothole lol. The pictures really don’t do it justice; the steel belt on the inside of the tire shifted.
For the record what Brand and model is that tire?
that’s probably where the belt is joined. defect. would be my guess
the steel belt snapped. was probably a defective tire if you really didn’t hit anything. i’ve seen similar tires at my shop.
